Sperling and the fear of pain is a German television film by director Marcus O. Rosenmüller based on a script by Norbert Ehry from 2003 . It is the fourteenth episode of the ZDF crime film series Sperling with Dieter Pfaff in the title role.

The chief inspector Hans Sperling is investigating the kidnapping of the siblings Simone and Julian Caspari. The kidnappers demand a ransom of nine million euros for the parents , which the child's father Jens is also willing to pay. The case reminds Sperling of one of his earlier cases, in which 13-year-old Marcel Wittfoht was kidnapped and a high ransom demand was also made, which never had to be met. Marcel was unharmed at the time, and the case came to the local archives.
