The Catholic pilgrimage church St. Alban in the district of Sankt Alban of the municipality Hörgertshausen in the district of Freising was built in the 15th century by a master builder from Landshut . It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Hörgertshausen .

history

For the important pilgrimage church in the Hallertau , a late Gothic building made of exposed brick with an attached sacristy and choir flank tower was created in the 15th century , as the previous building was too small for the pilgrimage. Some of them are blackish-burned bricks in an irregular distribution. It has a retracted choir with a five-eighth closing , the nave is a hall . The size of the church shows its national importance.

In 1833 a storm tore off the top of the church tower without damaging the surrounding property. Thereupon the church tower was raised and covered with a sheet of iron until 1836 for 1080 guilders. On January 19, 1986, the tower collapsed again halfway in a storm. It was rebuilt in the following years.

In 1960, at the instigation of the mayor, the interior of the church was renovated and the high altar and pulpit were removed. Parts of the high altar and the altar sheet, which depicts the beheading of St. Alban, are now in the subsidiary church of St. Peter and Paul in St. Peter's Choice.

On January 19, 1986, the tower of the pilgrimage church collapsed halfway in a storm. It was rebuilt true to the original in the following years.

Furnishing

The interior of the church appears bright and quite empty, as there is no choir altar or side altars apart from the celebration altar. Only a few figures and images of saints decorate the room.

The three figures of saints of St. Alban, Florian and Ulrich stand in the choir on the site of the former high altar. The aisle between the pews is quite wide. The interior was renewed several times except for the saints.

Market and importance of pilgrimages

Albigan Market

The Albigan market goes back to the 12th century and is still held today in a weaker form. and was considered the most important pilgrimage in the Hallertau. It was considered a centuries-old “big people and on Mondays also cattle market”, where the farmers recruited seasonal workers for the harvest. The earliest secure recording is to allow the market by Elector II. Emanuel Maximilian is and a church statement of 1684. The market at the 5th Sunday after Easter, the Bittsonntag before Ascension with the taking place the following day personnel and animal market today by the village community St. Alban, who are called "the Albiganers". Since the inn is closed, there has only been one traditional event in recent years to preserve the custom.

The income from the market and pilgrimage explains the considerable size of the church, which is the largest in the region after the Kastulusmünster in Moosburg.

Pilgrimage

The pilgrimage was one of the largest and most important in the Hallertau until the 1960s .

According to legend, St. Alban wandered with his severed head to this place where he wanted to be buried. On Sunday there was a procession from the parishes of Au , Attenkirchen and Reichertshausen and on Monday from the parishes of Nandlstadt , Tegernbach (Rudelzhausen) , Hebrontshausen, Margarethenried , Priel , Volkmannsdorf , Gammelsdorf , Mauern , Inkofen and Hörgertshausen. In the course of time the catchment area of the pilgrims became smaller and smaller and the absolute low point was reached in 1769, when the local residents only bought a normal mass. The pilgrimage recovered and the processional procession from the surrounding parishes of Nandlstadt, Baumgarten and Margarethenried were once again an annual part of the “Albigan Market”. Today on Monday there is still a traditional appeal from Hörgertshausen to Sankt Alban.
