St. George

The listed Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Georg is located in Wallrode , a district of the rural community Am Ohmberg in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia . The parish Wallrode belongs to the parish area Großbodungen in Kirchenkreis Südharz the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The core of the hall church is from the 13th century. It was changed in the late Gothic period and rebuilt in the baroque style in the second half of the 18th century . The nave is covered with a mansard roof with dormer windows , and the half-timbering can be seen in the eastern gable . The well-fortified church tower in the west has a slate-covered tower with sound arcades , in which the bell chamber is located. On top of it sits a hood , which is continued in an open lantern, which is crowned with a tower ball . On the east side of the nave are small ogival windows, in the early Gothic there were lancet windows . In the north is the ogival portal , above there is a picture niche. The interior space has two-storey galleries with parapets of balusters on the longitudinal sides and is provided with a wooden barrel vault spans. The pulpit altar is from 1791. To the side of it, rooms are separated. In the northeast, on the outside of the wall, is an epitaph from the 17th or 18th century. The organ with 13 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built by Robert Knauf & Sohn around 1885 .
