St. John the Baptist (Konfeld)
The Church of St. John the Baptist is a Roman Catholic parish church in Konfeld , a district of the municipality Weiskirchen , Merzig-Wadern district , Saarland . The church bears the patronage of John the Baptist and is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland monuments list.
history
In the Taxa generalis subsidiorum cleri Trevirensis , a directory of ecclesiastical property (monasteries, churches, etc.) of the Archdiocese of Trier , from 1330 a church in Konfeld is also mentioned. In visitation reports from 1569 and 1618 it is listed as "Capella liberalis". In 1793 the church was rebuilt, expanded in 1824 and destroyed by fire in 1852.
Today's church was built between 1854 and 1857 according to plans by the architect, district builder Birk ( Merzig ).
In 1994 the church underwent a restoration .
Architecture and equipment
The church building is a hall church with five window axes , an open roof and a polygonal five-sided choir . The tower is integrated into the facade.
The furnishings of the church include the Stations of the Cross paintings by the church painter Countess Octavie de Lasalle von Louisenthal ( Dagstuhl ) from 1881.
In addition, from located in the church wooden carved crucifixion scene in 1912 with Christ body, Virgin and St. John, which was donated by Father Uthoff. In 1954 the crucifixion group was removed from the interior of the church and placed above the entrance portal . In 1985 it was removed from there, restored in 1996 and placed back inside the church.
Further items of equipment are the carved oak pulpit from 1903, which was given to the church as a gift from the couple Jakob Weber-Langenfeld, which was re-erected in the left choir area in 1995 after a restoration and equipped with a new column base, as well as the baptismal font made of sandstone from 1996 was subjected to a restoration by the Bernhard Koch company.

The organ of the church was built in 1904 by the organ building company Mamert Hock ( Saarlouis ). In 1998 a restoration was carried out by Hugo Mayer ( Heusweiler ).
The Kegelladen instrument with a free-standing console , which is set up centrally on a gallery , has 15 sounding registers , distributed over 2 manuals and pedal . The medium brown glazed case is made of solid oak. The playing and stop action is pneumatic. The disposition is as follows:
