St. Kilian is a district of the town of Schleusingen in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .
geography
St. Kilian is located on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest mainly in the valley on the Breitenbach , which flows south of the village into the alder coming from Erlau .
history
St. Kilian was first mentioned in 1187 as the Erla chapel, which belonged to the Veßra monastery . It was located near the village of Raasen, on the Breitenbach, and developed into a church hill with a choir tower church, rectory, hospital and other outbuildings as well as a cemetery. Until 1815, the place belonged to the Henneberg or Electoral Saxon office Schleusingen and then came to the Schleusingen district of the newly formed Prussian province of Saxony , where it remained until 1945. In 1929 the manor district of St. Kilian was incorporated into the village. The rural community of Raasen was given the new name St. Kilian .
On October 3, 1991, St. Kilian was incorporated into the parish of St. Kilian . This was incorporated into Schleusingen on July 6, 2018.
Attractions
traffic
The Friedbergbahn runs directly through St. Kilian to Schleusingen and Suhl , which was closed in 1997. However, a museum railway association is planning to use the route in museum traffic. The closest regular train station is in Suhl and offers almost hourly connections to Erfurt , Meiningen and Würzburg .
St. Kilian is connected to the surrounding villages via a signposted network of cycle paths. After the old connection was interrupted in the course of the enlargement of the container glass factory, a new cycle path has existed since May 2020 along the L 3247 to Schleusingen.
On the southern border corridor crosses the St. Kilian viaduct the A73 . There is a connection to Erfurt / Schweinfurt and Coburg / Nuremberg via the nearby Schleusingen and Suhl-Friedberg junctions .
