St. Severin is a Roman Catholic parish church with a parish center and is located in the Austrian capital Salzburg , on the edge of the Sam settlement in the Langwied district . The church is consecrated to St. Severin von Noricum .

history

The Langwieds area originally belonged in part to the political community of Hallwang , but for pastoral care it belonged to the Bergheim parish (Pfarrsprengel Söllheim in the Bergheim dean's office ). By incorporation, it came to the Gnigl parish in 1938 (within the city dean of Salzburg ), from 1979 to the dean of Salzburg-East .

In 1987 the Gnigl parish bought a factory hall (formerly Popp) for youth work in Langwied and Sam. On June 28, 1997 the first service was celebrated. On November 1, 2001, St. Severin was established as an independent Roman Catholic pastoral care office.

In 2011 the comprehensive city dean's office was re-established, the parish association with Gnigl dissolved, and a parish association Salzburg-Itzling - Salzburg-St.Andrä - Salzburg-St.Elisabeth - Salzburg-St.Severin was established (PV 2, northeast of the city, Itzling , Elisabeth -Vorstadt , Schallmoos , Langwied , Gnigl-Nord ).

The house is designed as an open event center and also offers space for many non-church organizations (such as a band, a youth club, scouts and others), and thus functions as a general community center for the districts of Langwied / Sam.

church

The former company building was converted from 2003 to 2006 in a contemporary style (architect Peter Schuh) into a parish center with a parish church. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 5, 2003, on March 19, 2006 the bells of the tower could be rung for the first time, and Archbishop Alois Kothgasser undertook the consecration of the altar and the inauguration as a parish church on May 1, 2006. According to 2012, St. Severin is the youngest parish in Salzburg.

Inside the old factory hall, rooms were divided up, which are now designed as a sacristy and a chapel . There was space for group and seminar rooms in the former office and residential building and in a newly constructed wing, as well as a large foyer , a parish hall , offices and three apartments.

chapel

The chapel serves the church as a sacrament chapel . In it, Eucharistic celebrations take place on a small scale, for example during the week. The chapel is accessible practically all day for prayer ; it is usually only accessible via the entrance on the south-east side of the building complex, which is reached via a narrow garden path.

organ

Mayer organ

In 2011, through Ms. Josephine Ahlbach-Jacobi (Salzburg), a used organ with 19 stops was purchased for the church . It comes from the secular branch church of St. Elisabeth in Riegelsberg and was created in 1975 by Hugo Mayer . The instrument had to be carefully dismantled and transported from Saarland to Salzburg, where it could be set up again after it had been adapted. On March 18, 2012, Pastor Peter Larisch (†) blessed the organ at a festive service. In this context, the instrument re-voiced for St. Severin by Stephan Mayer was presented by cathedral organist Heribert Metzger with works by Georg Muffat, Max Reger and Johann Sebastian Bach.
