history

Steeple

Parishly (also politically 1848–1935) belonged the small town of Itzling to Gnigl , which was a parish curate of the cathedral chapter . Itzling has been a parish since 1857 .

The construction of the St. Antonius Church began in 1901 according to the plans of Jakob Ceconi, after the residents of the many new buildings repeatedly asked for a church center due to the large influx. The place away from the noisy Itzlinger Hauptstraße and next to today's Veronaplatz seemed ideal for the church. The building was financed by generous donations from Emperor Franz-Joseph , Archbishop Johannes Baptist Katschthaler and the Salzburg Rupertusverein . After its completion in 1903, the church was consecrated to St. Anthony of Padua by Archbishop Katschthaler as part of a large parish festival on October 11, 1903 .

The new church was so important for the local development that the triangle between Itzlinger Hauptstraße and Kirchenstraße is still called Itzlinger Kirchenviertel today , not because it is the old town center, but because it was built around the church.

From 1904 to 1912 Itzling was a parish exposition of the Gnigl parish, since then the church has been its own parish church.

From the end of the prince-archbishopric in 1803 the area belonged to the city dean of Salzburg, the parish of Itzling until 1979 to the dean's office of Bergheim , until 2011 to the dean's office of Salzburg-East , then the comprehensive city dean's office was re-established and Itzling to the parish association Salzburg-Itzling - Salzburg-St.Andrä - Salzburg-St.Elisabeth - Salzburg-St.Severin allocated (PV 2, northeast of the city, Itzling, Elisabeth-Vorstadt , Schallmoos , Langwied , Gnigl-Nord ).

The pastor has been city pastor Ernst Pöttler since 1990.

Building description and equipment

inner space

Jakob Ceconi as master builder and Karl Pirich as architect were responsible for the planning and execution of the church, which was built in the historicizing style of a Romanesque basilica ( neo-Romanesque ) .

The church has a high central nave with a wooden coffered ceiling and double-arched windows , upper cladding , a round apse , and a steeple on the side of the apse with stepped floors and a steep pyramid roof .

The four bells were temporarily joined by a small Cyrillic bell that was found orphaned at Salzburg's main train station in 1945. It has been in the Georgskirche on the Hohensalzburg Fortress since 1992 .

In 2010 the church received a new organ built by Rieger Orgelbau with 31 sounding stops on two manuals and a pedal .
