description

The large Wigbert dedicated Saalkirche has a strongly retracted choir tower and a longitudinally rectangular chorus of approximately the same width. The choir has two lancet windows on the east side . The current appearance of the nave is marked by renovations in 1674 and the beginning of the 18th century. The covered, two-flight staircase to the galleries on the south side was added as early as 1579 according to the inscription. The mighty saddle roof on the nave takes away the height effect of the choir tower. The attic was also used as floor storage until the 20th century . During a purifying restoration of the church in the 1950s, the galleries of the nave were reduced to one storey and shortened in the south. At the same time the baroque pulpit was removed. The spatial impression of height and width that has prevailed since then is determined by the coffered ceiling installed in 1674 on two beams and six slender columns made of wood. There are remains from the 17th and 18th centuries on the galleries and the ceiling supports. In the groin-vaulted sacristy remains of a painting from around 1500 were uncovered. Among the few preserved old pieces of church furnishings are an eight-sided baptismal font from the 16th century and a baroque crucifix .

The organ with 20 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built by Adalbert Förtsch in 1861 and restored by Gerhard Kirchner in 1960 .
