The Stadio Comunale ( German  Städtisches Stadion ) is a football stadium in the Italian city of Chiavari . It has space for 4,154 spectators and serves as a home for the Virtus Entella association .

history

The Stadio Comunale in Chiavari , a town with now around 28,000 inhabitants and located in the northern Italian metropolitan city of Genoa in Liguria , was built in 1932 and 1933 and opened in the latter year. The stadium, owned by the city of Chiavari, has served the Virtus Entella football club as a home game venue since it opened . The smaller city club Chiavari Caperana also uses the venue as its home stadium. While Chiavari Caperana cannot point to any notable national successes, Virtus Entella has enjoyed a strong upswing in recent years. After spending decades in the lower divisions of Italian football, the leap back to the third highest division, the then Lega Pro Prima Divisione , was made in 2012 . There Virtus Entella quickly established himself in the top third and finally made the leap into Serie B for the first time in the club's history two years later . In the 2014/15 season , second division games will be played in the Stadio Comunale in Chiavari for the first time. The first home game in Serie B at the Stadio Comunale took place on August 30, 2014 against FC Bari 1908 , the guest from southern Italy won the match 2-0.

The Stadio Comunale has undergone several renovations since it opened. Only two years after the venue was completed, the first repair work took place in 1935. More such followed in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013. After the promotion to Serie B in 2014, the capacity of the venue was increased. While the Stadio Comunale previously had only 2,510 spectators, the capacity has now been increased to 4,154 spectators due to requirements.

The stadium also changed its name over the years. At the time of opening, it was known as the Stadio Littorio, as it was in Italy . After the end of the fascist dictatorship under Benito Mussolini , the stadium was renamed from the Stadio Littorio in the system to Stadio Comunale . The venue still bears this name today.
