The Birkenwiese stadium is a football stadium in Dornbirn in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . The Birkenwiese serves in the football stadium as the second league playing 1913 FC Dornbirn as home stadium.
history
The area of the municipal sports field Birkenwiese was built in 1935, at the same time as the Birkenwiese settlement . During the events of the Gymnaestrada 2007 and the Gymnaestrada 2019 , at which the Birkenwiese stadium was one of the main venues as the location for the opening and closing ceremonies, the stadium's capacity was expanded to 30,000 seats.
After FC Dornbirn rose to the first league in the 2009/10 season , the city council decided unanimously to adapt the existing stadium grounds and convert it to make it suitable for the Bundesliga. In particular, the installation of a new floodlight system was carried out on this train. Due to construction work of the FC Dornbirn was the stadium for the time being not to use at home games in the league, but had this away (mostly in the Cashpoint Arena of SCR Altach ) unsubscribe. On August 28, 2009 a first division game took place in the home stadium of FC Dornbirn.
Location and transport links
The Birkenwiese stadium and the surrounding sports and leisure areas, which together make up more than 6.8 hectares, are located in the Schoren district of Dornbirn . To the north-west of the sports facilities, they border directly on the state sports center and the army performance center. Partly on the grounds of the state sports center, but also belonging to the public sports complex, there is also a "fun court", two beach volleyball courts , a small soccer field and a large artificial turf field . To the north, the tennis courts of the TC Dornbirn border the municipal sports facilities. The entire site lies on the edge of the settlement area and directly on the dam of the Dornbirner Ach , which is used as a recreational area and which flows past to the east.
The Birkenwiese stadium can be reached by private transport via the L 42 Werbenstraße (referred to as Höchsterstraße in the local road network). Alternatively, line 1 of the Dornbirn city bus can be used, as the Birkenwiese stop is right in front of the main stadium entrance. It is about 400 meters on foot from the Schoren train stop of the ÖBB .
