City Deanery 23

It comprises eleven parishes in the 23rd district of Liesing in Vienna and one parish in the 10th district of Favoriten . In 2004 there were around 45,800 Catholics in the deanery, the number is tending to decrease. The Rosenhügel chapel of the Mauer parish is now in the 13th district of Hietzing , as the area of the Rosenberg cadastral parish fell from Mauer to Hietzing in 1908 .

Probably the oldest parish in the deanery is the Inzersdorf parish, founded in 1217. A pastor was first mentioned in a document for Atzgersdorf in 1345. In the course of the Josephine reforms, Mauer, Rodaun and Siebenhirten in 1783 and Liesing in 1784 were elevated to parishes, Kalksburg followed in 1805. In the 20th century, there were four parish surveys in the area of City Deanery 23: Inzersdorf-Neustift in 1939, Neuerlaa in 1975, Residential park Alterlaa in 1989 and finally the parish Erlöserkirche Endresstraße, which was the youngest parish of the deanery when it was founded in 1996. The current parish of Emmaus am Wienerberg was no longer part of the deanery area from 1989, in 1992 it was raised outside of the parish and returned to deanery 23 in 2015.
