Stanislaus Traut (t) wein von Belle (born June 25, 1782 in Strasbourg , † July 13, 1844 in Posen ) was a Prussian major general .

His parents were the French diplomat Stanislaus von Belle and his wife Barbara, née Keith. His brother Clemens († November 6, 1806) was an officer in the 2nd Warsaw Fusilier Brigade, who fell during the Battle of Lübeck .

Military career

Belle attended the Polish military school in Sklow and joined the Polish regiment "von Rottenburg" in 1795 as a junker . After the partition of Poland , he switched to Prussian services and was employed on June 1, 1796 as a private corporal in the von Ploetz infantry regiment . Belle was promoted to second lieutenant there by the end of October 1799 . He came into the grenadier battalion "von Massow" that the regiment "von Ruits" and "von Ploetz" formed from the grenadier companies . As such, he took part in the Fourth Coalition War and fought at Prussian Eylau and Braunsberg.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Belle was transferred to the grenadier battalion "von Wangenheim" on December 1, 1807 - it consisted of the grenadier companies of Regiment No. 8 and No. 42. On January 31, 1808 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant. November 1808 transferred to the Kolberg Infantry Regiment . There he was promoted to staff captain on September 24, 1812 . Belle took part in the campaign of 1812 and fought in the siege of Riga and the skirmishes at Eckau, Kivenhof, Mesothen, Graefenthal and Ruhenthal.

After the campaign, Bella rose to captain and company commander on June 11, 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation , he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class for Großgörschen and was wounded near Bautzen and Dennewitz . Belle fought at Großbeeren , Halle and Colditz. In the battle at Wineghem he was wounded again and awarded the Iron Cross 1st class. He also took part in the siege of Wittenberg and the assault on Arnhem.

After the war, Belle became a major on April 5, 1816 , received the service cross in 1825 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1832 . On July 20, 1834, he was commissioned to lead the 6th Infantry Regiment. Due to his numerous wounds, Belle was no longer fit for duty. Therefore, on March 30, 1835, he was promoted to Colonel as 2nd Commander of Posen . On March 10, 1840 Belle received his farewell to the character as a major general and an annual pension of 1750 thalers. He died in Poznan on July 13, 1844 and was buried two days later.

His brigade chief, General von Krafft, wrote in his assessment in 1815: “His behavior is good, moral, his restless activity and his eagerness to serve go to the point of meticulousness. It is an excellent screed officer with a lot of bravery, good education and overview, without any special knowledge. It has received serious wounds in almost every battle and still suffers periodically from the consequences of the crushing of its right arm. I highly recommend him for promotion as major and commander of a fusilier battalion. "

Belle married on June 12, 1821 in Stettin Julie Walpurgis Friederike Henriette von Schmidt (* December 1, 1800, † February 23, 1877), a daughter of General Friedrich Karl Hellwig von Schmidt . The couple had several children:
