Stardust is an English-language pop song from the 2012 album of the same name by German singer Lena .

background

Stardust is a joint composition of the Israeli-American artist Rosi Golan and the American musician Tim Myers, a former member of the pop rock band OneRepublic . This makes the piece with Pink Elephant and Bliss Bliss one of three songs on her album in which Lena was not involved as a songwriter. The song's official radio premiere was on August 8, 2012. The international live premiere was on September 4, 2012 in Beverly Hills during the 40th anniversary of Porsche Design . On September 21, the song was released digitally and as a CD single as a pre -single of their third album of the same name . Musically, Lena describes the song as a mixture of Michael Jackson and the Kelly Family .

Stardust is a three minute and thirty second long pop song. The dominant instruments in the song are piano and drums. Other instruments are bass, guitar, glockenspiel and cello.

Criticism

Critics were taken with the song and praised it as the highlight of the album.

  • “The big hit of the album is without a doubt the first single release, Stardust , in which Lena's thin voice gets lost in the vastness of the soundscape and adorns and distorts the strong, percussion-heavy melody. In the particularly strong moments of the song you only hear Lena say "Ooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh", which is not a criticism of Lena's sang work, but a praise of the composition. "(Maximilian Kloes, focus. de)
  • Stardust sounds like international pop, which is not entirely without claim, but still sounds relaxed and fluffy like breakfast in bed. The title song, for example, is really successful with its stoic drums and all the clinking. "(Kevin Holtmann, plattentests.de)
  • "The number of hits on Lena's third album [has] decreased somewhat in favor of more demanding compositions, even if the first single ( Stardust ) is quite catchy." (Matthias Reichel, cdstarts.de)

Music video

The music video was made in August 2012 in the Spanish semi-desert Bardenas Reales . It was released on September 7, 2012. The director was Bode Brodmüller from the artist collective Høbrecht Animals, who had previously worked with Joy Denalane , Max Herre and Jan Delay .

The music news site musikmarkt.de wrote about the video: In the video for Stardust , Lena initially shows her face covered in glitter dust. Then Lena wanders through environments that are reminiscent of different vegetation zones in the African desert. Several times in Stardust , Lena is accompanied by a choir, which - in contrast to the protagonist - covered in mud, obviously represents a group of primeval desert inhabitants. At one point in the video [..] you can see that group climbing a small mountain. The next picture shows a desert panorama, which now shows a monkey climbing that mountain. The relationship between monkey and human suggests that Lena with the song name "Stardust" alludes to topics such as evolution or creation, after all, stardust is considered the origin of the elements. Various scenes [...] also show Lena wrapped in a cloud of steam. In Stardust , Lena often lolls on the desert floor or on a bed, on which she falls asleep at the end of the video [...]. On March 21, 2013, the video was awarded the Echo Music Prize.
