biography

Stefan Kaufmann comes from a musical family. He started playing the guitar at the age of twelve. At the age of 14 he switched to drums and made a name for himself in local bands.

At the age of 17 he worked as a roadie for the emerging German heavy metal band Accept. After the previous drummer Frank Friedrich left the band in 1978, Kaufmann surprisingly became his successor. Kaufmann was a musician with Accept until 1994, during which time they became one of the most famous German heavy metal bands in the world. Chronic back problems and osteoarthritis forced him to end his career as a drummer in 1994. The band Accept split up in 1996 for the time being.

Since 1996 Kaufmann has been guitarist for UDO, the band of the former Accept singer Udo Dirkschneider . Kaufmann had already produced several UDO solo albums. UDO was founded in 1987 after singer Udo Dirkschneider left Accept.

Kaufmann has also been working as a music producer since 1992 and has his own recording studio in Stommeln (near Cologne). There he also produced other well-known heavy metal bands such as Majesty , UDO, Outrage and Rough Silk .

On September 13, 2012, Stefan Kaufmann announced that he had to end his engagement at UDO for health reasons.
