Stefan Kowitz

Stefan Kowitz (born May 11, 1959 in Hamburg ) is a German general practitioner and head of the Multinational Medical Coordination Center (MMCC) / European Medical Command (EMC) in Koblenz .

Training and first uses

Kowitz joined the Bundeswehr in 1979 as a medical officer candidate . After studying and training as a general practitioner, he was appointed head of the Rennerod medical center and the AFCENT medical team . Later he was entrusted as a commander with the management of the 11th Medical Battalion and the 11th Hospital Regiment. Afterwards, Kowitz was department head at the General Physician of the Army and deputy head of the Central Medical Service of the Bundeswehr . Subsequently, he was used as staff officer G3 at the medical command 1 in Kiel . He was later employed as a Deputy Staff Officer G3 at the Medical Command Command in Koblenz (responsible for exercises, operations and STRATAIR-MEDEVAC ) and as a Medical Advisor at the Joint Forces Command Brunssum of NATO in Brunssum ( Netherlands ). Subsequently, Kowitz was employed as head of department X in the medical office of the Bundeswehr in Munich . Here he was responsible for further development, capability analysis and research in the central medical service. He then became head of Department I (planning, concepts, development) in the medical service command of the Bundeswehr .

Service as a general

Effective January 9, 2014, Kowitz took over the management of the NATO Center of Excellence for Military Medicine (MILMED COE) in Budapest . In February 2015, Kowitz became a scientific advisor at Semmelweis University Budapest for "military, disaster and police medicine". On July 14, 2016, he handed over the management of COEMED to a Hungarian colonel, and on August 1, 2016, he became Medical Advisor at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe ( SHAPE ) in Mons , Belgium . Since July 2019, Dr. Kowitz the Director of the Multinational Medical Coordination Center (MMCC) / European Medical Command (EMC) in the Koblenz Rhine Barracks .

Kowitz is married and has four children. One of his daughters is also a medical officer in the Bundeswehr.
