Steffen Königer (born October 15, 1972 in Potsdam ) is a German craftsman and politician. From 2000 to 2004 he was editor of the New Right weekly newspaper Junge Freiheit . Since the late 1990s, politically right-wing parties active, he was in the state election in 2014 over the national list of the AFD in the Brandenburg parliament voted to which he belonged until of 2019. From December 2017 he was one of six assessors in the AfD federal executive board until he left the party in November 2018. According to his own statements, he did so in protest against right-wing tendencies in the party.

Life

Königer attended the Polytechnic High School in Werder (Havel) from 1979 to 1989 and trained as a skilled worker for plastic and elastomer processing from 1989 to 1991 . In 1994 he graduated from the Potsdam College and was a journeyman in the vulcanization trade. From 1994 to 1996 he did community service in a kindergarten in Potsdam.

From 1996 to 2004 he studied political science , psychology and modern history at the University of Potsdam , but did not finish his studies. During this time he was a member of the Potsdam board of the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS).

From 2000 to 2004 he worked for the weekly newspaper Junge Freiheit as editor-in-chief for the Zeitgeist & Media section . He then went freelance as a tiler , but wrote articles for Junge Freiheit until 2011 .

In 1995 he was named "Mister Brandenburg". The Brandenburg state championships in windsurfing , he reached the top spot of 2005. He was chairman of the board of the Werder / Havel windsurfing club. V.

Königer is the father of two children and divorced since 2014.

From August 1989 to March 1990, Königer was a member of the citizens' movement Neues Forum .

On December 3, 2017, he was elected as a member of the AfD's federal board. On this occasion he hit the headlines because he claimed that children in the German education system were "pumped full of ideologies, with early sexualization, gender mainstream, with political correctness" from kindergarten to high school. In June 2016 he gave a much-noticed speech "on gender madness" in the state parliament, which consisted almost exclusively of greetings from sexual minorities.

In November 2018, Königer announced his exit from the AfD. He could no longer agree to stay with his conscience, since some regional associations had been lost to "destructive groups" who consciously accepted observation by the protection of the constitution .

For the election to the district council of Potsdam-Mittelmark , Königer originally wanted to stand as a non-party member of the CDU's list , but withdrew the candidacy after criticism and is now running as an individual candidate .

In the local elections in Brandenburg in 2014 Königer was for the AFD in the district council elected-Mittelmark Potsdam. He became parliamentary group chairman and a member of the Werder city ​​council .

In the state elections in Brandenburg in 2014 , he ran again as a direct candidate, this time in the state constituency of Potsdam-Mittelmark III / Potsdam III (constituency 19). Koeniger sees himself as a “freedom-loving bourgeois conservative”, but also as a “ national conservative ”. The Potsdam political scientist Gideon Botsch has described him as a right-wing populist who deliberately addresses right-wing voters.
