The Steinbühl is 632.1  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Hahnenkamm , a mountain range in the low mountain range Franconian Alb . It is located in the Middle Franconian district of Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen ( Bayern ) is partly wooded and is one of the highest peaks of the Hahnenkamm and the district.

The Steinbühl is located in the Altmühltal Nature Park in the south of the Berolzheim Forest . Its summit is 850 m east-southeast of Rohrach and 1 km north of Fuchsmühle , two districts of Heidenheim on the Rohrach (Eastern Rohrach) . The Großholz district of Markt Berolzheim is on the south-eastern flank . The municipal boundary of Heidenheim runs over the eastern flank in the west, whose core town is 5.7 km northwest of the summit, and Markt Berolzheim in the east, whose core town is 3.2 km northeast.

About 150 west of the summit is a trigonometric point ( ) at a height of 621.1  m . To the north, the landscape leads over the 600 m contour line to the neighboring rise of the Gemeindeberg (approx.  625  m ).

Natural allocation

The Steinbühl belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Franconian Alb (No. 08), in the main unit Southern Franconian Alb ( 082) and in the sub-unit Altmühlalb (082.2) to the natural area Hahnenkammalb (082.20).

Protected areas

Parts of the protected landscape area in the Altmühltal Nature Park ( CDDA no. 396115; designated 1995; 1632.9606  km² ) and the fauna-flora-habitat area Trauf of the southern Franconian Alb (FFH no. 6833-371; 43 , 2442 km²). A nearby nature reserve is Buchleite near Markt Berolzheim (CDDA no. 162621; 1981; 31.13  ha ) in the east-northeast.
