history

The "Jagl" around 1915

For a long time Steinbach consisted of two courtyards: The larger one was the "Berl", probably a 14 -hof , possibly subject to the Ettal monastery . It is reported for the first time around 1645. After it burned down in 1876, it was rebuilt and acquired by Christian Ring, a Prussian captain , in 1912 . From 1950 his grandson leased the property and around 1960 agriculture was given up. After a short period of use as a riding stables, the farm deteriorated so that it was demolished in 1989 because it was in disrepair. Several buildings were built in its place. The second, smaller yard was the "Jagl", which is first reported around 1618. It was possibly a 18 -hof and probably also paid interest to the Ettal monastery. Christian Ring also bought this building in 1912 and expanded it into a villa by adding two side wings. Ring operated Steinbach as a manor , and the “Jagl” farm is still sometimes referred to as “Gut Steinbach”.

Up until at least 1973 Steinbach was classified as a hamlet in the Bavarian indexes of places , and from 1987 at the latest as a wasteland. On January 1, 1978, the village was reorganized as part of the regional reform in Bavaria from the dissolved community of Frauenrain to Iffeldorf.
