Qualification for ÖFB Cup

The Cup of the Styrian Football Association , briefly StFV Cup called, is one of nine Austrian football - cup competitions for amateur teams of men at association level, of the Styrian Football Federation aligned and the knockout system is discharged.

The cup competition is called the Steirer Cup , until 1996 the Styrian Football Cup , which has been held again since the 2007/08 season and is a qualifying competition for the ÖFB Cup . The cup is currently sponsored by Wochenzeitungs GmbH Steiermark and is known as the WOCHE-Steirer-Cup . In the 2018/19 season, SC Kalsdorf was able to win the title and qualify for the first ÖFB Cup participation in the club's history.

From 1932 to 1951, the state cup was the highlight of Styrian football, alongside the championship, and was discontinued after the Styrian clubs were integrated into nationwide football. After a 45-year break, the association tried to reintroduce the Cup in 1995 with clubs from the third performance level in descending order, but stopped it again after two events - until it was reorganized as the Styrian Cup 2007/08.

StC1 In 1929 a cup competition was played, but the winner is not known.

The first attempt to introduce a state cup was made in 1922 and found its winner in the Upper Styrian club Kapfenberger SC. In 1927, the Grazer AK won the cup competition, which was limited to the provincial capital Graz and was held according to the championship system. Behind the winner were SK Sturm, Grazer SC, Hakoah , Rapid and Castell .

In the 1928/29 season , the StFV organized the "Brücklmeier Cup". Only clubs in the 1st national class were allowed to participate. In the finals on July 21, 1929, the Grazer AK won the game for third place 8-1 against Grazer SC. The final game for the cup winner between Sturm Graz and Hakoah Graz ended in a 1-1 draw. Since the regulations back then did not provide for extra time or a penalty shoot-out, the game had to be repeated on another day. However, the result of the new event is no longer known. It should be noted that all of the Landescup held before 1932 were of an unofficial nature.

In 1932, the national cup was officially introduced by the association. In the 16 to 1951 played seasons, only three clubs were able to enter the list of winners: record winner Sturm, GAK and Kapfenberger SC. In the seasons 1947/48 and 1948/49 the national cup served as a qualification for the federal state cup , whereby Sturm Graz succeeded in 1948 as the first provincial club (clubs outside the city of Vienna) to reach the final. There the Styrians failed just 1: 2 at FK Austria Wien . Worth mentioning is the 1949 Landespokal in Sturm Graz, after a draw demanded a new staging each time, and it took four final games to defend its title with 2: 2, 0: 0, 2: 2 and 4: 2 over ESV Austria. The federal state cup was abolished again in 1949, in 1951 the StFV decided as one of the first Austrian state associations to suspend its cup competition for an indefinite period.

After the national cup was discontinued in 1951, it took 45 years for the StFV to announce another cup competition for the 1994/95 season. Since the former top clubs had long since switched to professional operations, no longer existed or only played in the lowest grades, two new clubs, ASK Voitsberg and the Apprentice Support Association (LUV) Graz, were able to enter the list of winners.
