Steve Gallace (born August 28, 1978 in London , Ontario ) is a former Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with SG Cortina in the Italian A1 series until 2010 . His brother Richard was a professional ice hockey goalkeeper .
Career
Steve Gallace began his career with the Owen Sound Platers , where he played for two years. In the summer of 1997 he moved to the Toronto St. Michael's Majors before he signed a contract with the Belleville Bulls that same year .
From 1998 to 2002, Gallace defended with the Saint Mary's Huskies , the ice hockey team at Saint Mary's University in Halifax , Nova Scotia . In the 2001/02 season he completed an audition each with the Providence Bruins and Saint John Flames from the American Hockey League . In 2001 and 2002 he was elected to the First All Star Team of the Atlantic University Sports Division within the student sports organization Canadian Interuniversity Sports . In 2002 he was also awarded the title of Outstanding Student-Athlete for both the Division and the entire Canadian Interuniversity Sports.
He did not get any engagement in the AHL, he decided in the summer of 2002 to sign a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Cyclones . In the following seasons, Gallace played for various clubs in the Elite Ice Hockey League , Coventry Blaze , the Newcastle Vipers and the Basingstoke Bison . In 2004 he was elected as top scorer, top scorer and best preparer among the defensive players of the league in the EIHL's second all-star team. In 2005 he moved to HC Meran and thus went onto the ice for the first time for an Italian A2 series club . After two years in Meran , with which he won the A2 series in 2007, he made the leap into the first Italian league and signed a contract there with HC Pustertal . From 2008 to 2010 Gallace played for SG Cortina.
International
For Italy , Steve Gallace took part in the World Championship of Division I in 2009 and made it to the top division with the men's selection.
