Steven "Stevie" May (born November 3, 1992 in Perth ) is a Scottish football player who plays for St. Johnstone FC .

Career

Stevie May was born in November 1992 in Perth, Central Scotland. May began his career in his hometown with FC St. Johnstone, for whom he played until 2009 in his youth. At the age of 16 he made his debut in the club's first team. On the last day of the second division season 2008/09 he made his debut against Airdrie United and scored the first goal of his career. During the summer break he received his first professional contract with the Saints , which ran until 2012. In the following season , May was not used, this changed in 2010/11 when he scored two goals in 19 first division games. After he was active again on the first day of the following season for the Saints , he was awarded to the Scottish fourth division club Alloa Athletic . By the end of the season he had completed 22 games and scored 19 goals. This was followed by a loan to Hamilton Academical in the 2nd division in which May kept his accuracy. After his return to Perth he became a regular player and surprisingly won the Scottish Cup in 2014 with the Saints . Then May moved to England for a transfer fee to the second division club Sheffield Wednesday . A year later the striker was signed from Preston North End . In December 2015, May suffered a ligament injury in his knee, which ended his season prematurely. After his comeback he was only used sporadically in Preston . May moved to Aberdeen FC in August 2017 for £ 300,000 . In August 2019 he returned to his youth club, St. Johnstone.

National team

Stevie May played in the Scottish U-20 and U-21 between 2012 and 2014 . In November 2014, he made his debut under national coach Gordon Strachan for the Scottish national soccer team against England at Celtic Park after being substituted on for Grant Hanley .
