The film Silent Night - A Song for the World tells the story of the creation of the song Silent Night, Holy Night on Christmas Eve 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber and Joseph Mohr to its worldwide fame and popularity today. The meaning of the song for the Christmas peace in the First World War on December 24, 1914 is brought up and staged.

Kelly Clarkson and Joss Stone sang their own version for this film. Josh Groban , Anggun , Lina Makhoul, Victoria Dayneko, The Tenors, Gavin Rossdale and David Foster also talk about the meaning of the song for them or contribute newly produced songs such as Come All You Faithful , Christmas Wishes and And So this is Christmas .
