Stronie [ ˈstrɔɲe ] is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality of Stryszów in the powiat Wadowicki of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

The place is between Leśnica in the northeast and Zakrzów in the southwest, on the uppermost course of the Stryszówka brook. In the north and south there are two mountains, both called Strońska Góra . The northern mountain (468 m) belongs to the Pogórze Wielickie (foothills), the southern (503) belongs to the Central Beskids .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1440, but is certainly older. Traces of settlements from the Neolithic Age (4000 to 1700 BC) to the early Middle Ages (8th to 12th centuries) have been found on the slopes of the northern Strońska Góra Mountain . In the above-mentioned year 1440 Stronie was bought together with Leśnica and the Ochodza Forest from Mikołaj Serafin, a subordinate of the Polish king and salt counts (Polish żupnik ) of Italian origin. Shortly afterwards, the villages of Zakrzów , Jaroszowice and Barwałd (Dolny) were also bought by him. These places were then separated from the Duchy of Auschwitz in the Kingdom of Bohemia and attached to the Kingdom of Poland ("intra terminos Regni [Poloniae et] Regno in perpetuum cedatur"). In other words, the state affiliation changed earlier than with the rest of the Duchy of Auschwitz or Zator. That was also on February 3, 1441 by Władysław III. confirmed in Esztergom : omne ius, quod sibi competebat ratione eius cessionis per ducem in hoc castro et villis Stronye, Leschnycza, Jaroschowcze, Zakrzow et Berwald, quarum tres ultimas Nicolaus gladifer suis pecuniis exempeterat, ac silva per Ochodza in .

The above mentioned villages became the Starostei of Barwałd in 1474/1475 . From 1646 Leśnica, Stronie and Zakrzów belonged to Michał Zebrzydowski, the Starost of Lanckorona.

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Stronie became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1884 the Galician Transversal Railway was opened through Stronie.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Stronie came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Stronie was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
