Stuart Brisley

Stuart Brisley (* 1933 in Haslemere , Surrey in England ) is a British performance artist .

life and work

Brisley was born in a small town in south-east England and now lives in London 's Shoreditch , Dungeness and Istanbul . From 1949 to 1954, Brisley studied at the Guildford School of Art . Subsequently (1956–1959) at the Royal College of Art in London and then for a year at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . He continued his studies from 1960 to 1962 at Florida State University in Tallahassee . Brisley was a professor at the Slade School of Fine Art . His students included Mona Hatoum , Andrew Kötting, Douglas Gordon , Hayley Newman, Donald Rodney, Zarina Bhimji , Sutapa Biswas, Catherine Yass and Marcia Farquhar. Since 1971 he has been a member of the British Artists Union .

And for today… nothing from 1972 is Brisley's first known performance. In 1973 he shot the 20-minute film Arbeit Macht Frei .

Stuart Brisley has been a member of the organization founded by Barbara Steveni in London in 1965 in London since 1974, together with John Latham , Barry Flanagan , David Hall , Jeffrey Shaw , Anna Ridley, Maurice Agis , Ian MacDonald-Munro, Hugh Davies , David Toop and Ian Breakwell Artist Placement Group .
