Sussex is located in the western suburbs of the city of Milwaukee , around 30 km west of Lake Michigan .
The geographical coordinates of Sussex are 43 ° 08'02 "north latitude and 88 ° 13'19" west longitude. The municipality extends over an area of 19.74 km² and is almost completely surrounded by the Town of Lisbon without belonging to it.
Neighboring Sussex towns are Colgate (9.6 km north), Lannon (5.7 km northeast), Menomonee Falls (11.2 km in the same direction), Brookfield (16 km southeast), the town of Pewaukee (10.6 km south), the parish of Pewaukee (9.3 km south-southwest), Hartland (14.3 km west-southwest), and Merton (7.7 km west-northwest).
Milwaukee city center is 22 miles east-southeast. The closest major cities to Milwaukee are Green Bay (182 km north), Wisconsin's capital Madison (108 km west), Rockford in the neighboring state of Illinois (147 km southwest) and Chicago , Illinois (178 km south-southeast).

The Interstate 94 , the shortest connection from Milwaukee to Madison, extends in the east-west direction by the municipality. From this, the four-lane US Highway 16 branches off in a northerly direction. In addition, Wisconsin State Highways 74 , 164 and 190 meet in Sussex . All other roads in Sussex are minor country roads, unpaved driveways or inter-urban connecting roads.
Two freight railroad lines, the Canadian National Railway (CN) and the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) , cross in Sussex .
