Sven van Buren (born August 20, 1983 ) is a former Belgian ice hockey player and today's coach.

Career

Sven van Buren began his career at HYC Herentals , for whom he made his debut in the Belgian honor division at the age of 18 , after initially playing in the second team, and becoming Belgian champion in 2002 . In 2004 he moved to the Antwerp district club Phantoms Deurne , with which he won the Belgian cup competition in 2005. After he returned to Herentals for the 2010/11 season , he let his career end with Olympia Heist op den Berg until 2014 .

International

For Belgium van Buren took part in the junior division of the U18 World Championships in the European Division 2 2000 and Division III 2001 and the U20 World Championship in 2003 in Division III.

For the men's national team , van Buren played in Division II at the 2003 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 and 2010 World Championships . At the 2004 World Cup , he played with the Belgians in Division I.

Coaching career

After his playing career, van Buren worked as a coach. At the women's world championships in 2017 and 2018 , he was the assistant coach of the Belgians who competed in the qualification for Division II.
