Ladislav "Lado" Svozil (born May 8, 1958 in Prostějov , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach , who previously worked for various clubs in the Czech Republic and Germany.

Player career

The striker began his career in the youth of his home club HC Prostějov and moved to HC Vítkovice in the first division in 1976 . In North America, we recognized his talent and so chose him Detroit Red Wings in NHL Amateur Draft in 1978 in the 12th round as the 194th player, even if a change in the US was not very promising at this time. In 1981 Svozil was able to win the Czechoslovak Championship for the first time with his team . In 1985 he moved to league rivals HC Dukla Jihlava , but after two years he returned to Vítkovice for another season.

For the 1988/89 season , the attacker signed a contract with the then German second division club EV Stuttgart , whose jersey he wore for the next two years. After a short interlude at the Italian club HC Meran , Svozil moved to Heilbronner EC , where he matured into a leading player in the team by the end of his career in 1995 and was able to achieve 360 scorer points in 170 games . To this day, the Czech is the second best points collector in the club's history behind the Canadian Robby Geale .

International

With the Czechoslovak national team , Ladislav Svozil was vice world champion at the ice hockey world championships in 1979 and 1983 , and he also competed with the team in the 1984 Canada Cup .

Coaching career

After the end of his active career, Svozil first returned to his homeland, the Czech Republic, where he took over the position of assistant coach and later the head coach of his ex-club HC Vítkovice. At the same time, the former striker acted as assistant coach of the Czech U20 national team , with whom he was able to achieve fourth place at the Junior World Championships in 1997 and 1998 . In 1999 Svozil came back to his former club in Heilbronn as a junior coach. During the 2000/01 season he finally replaced the unsuccessful Gary Prior on the coaching bench of the professional team in the 2nd Bundesliga and was in turn replaced in 2002 by Georg Holzmann .
