Systematics of the ferns

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The system of ferns follows Smith et al. (2006), who created a classical taxonomy of the recent ferns on a phylogenetic basis.

According to the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature , the scientific names have endings that are indicative of the rank of the corresponding taxa. The names of the families end with "-aceae", those of the orders with "-ales", the subclasses with "-idae" and the classes with "-opsida".

Smith et al. (2006) divide the ferns into four classes.
