Szentlőrinc [ ˈsɛntløːrints ] (German St. Laurenz , Croatian: Selurinac ) is a small town with 7,400 inhabitants in the south of Hungary in the Transdanubian county of Baranya . It is the economic, cultural and administrative center of the small area of the same name of around 2,000 km².
location
The city is located about 20 km southwest of the county capital Pécs on the trunk road 6 to Szigetvár (18 km) in a flat, agrarian environment. Only a few kilometers to the north-east does the landscape rise to the Mecsek Mountains , which overlook the vast Pannonian Plain by around 400 m.

history
In the middle of the 18th century, the administrative center for the estates of Duke Miklós Esterházy was established in Szentlőrinc . Its baroque castle , which was built between 1696 and 1717 and later expanded several times, is located on the spacious church square (Templom tér) . The Catholic rectory and the baroque church were completed around 1718 - shortly after the castle. The church is now a listed building because of its special construction, but its furnishings only date from the 19th century.
The Koncz-Brantner house in Munkácsy Mihály utca was built in the 18th century and was the residence of the estate manager of the Esterházy family. Today it houses a large, publicly accessible private collection. In addition, the city has a new, extensive museum of local history (in the inner city passage), where archeological finds and topics of regional studies and ethnology are exhibited.
Events
The parish fair (fair) begins every year on August 10th. The “ Laurentius Days” include numerous cultural events and a street ball. There is also a regular agricultural fair, "Farmers' Day" (Gazdanapok) . The fair is the main agricultural event in Baranya County .
