T-34 is a 2018 Russian war and action film .

action

In the fall of 1941, the young sub-lieutenant Nikolay Ivushkin came to the front straight from training. He was given the task of using the only remaining tank in his battalion , a T-34 , to defend a small village just outside Moscow against a number of advancing German Panzer IIIs . After shooting down several German tanks, his own tank is also hit and Ivushkin is captured.

T-34/85 tanks

Three years later the Red Army has come threateningly close to the borders of the German Reich . Standartenführer Klaus Jäger, who was in command of the armored unit destroyed by Ivushkin, suggests first Heinz Guderian and then Heinrich Himmler special training for the recruits of the 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitler Youth" , namely a battle against a captured Russian tank of the latest design T-34/85 . This is to be driven by prisoners of war Soviet tank soldiers who, however, will not receive any ammunition for this mission. Himmler agrees.

Jäger went to a concentration camp in Thuringia in order to look for a suitable Soviet tank commander there, and recognized Ivushkin as the officer who had hit him with his tank at the time. Ivushkin, who, despite torture, refused to give his name and rank during these three years, was transferred to the camp after seven attempts to escape to be killed there. At first he refuses to accept Jäger's suggestion and only gives in when Jäger threatens to shoot the Russian translator Anya.

Ivushkin selects his new crew from among the prisoners in the camp, including his former driver Stepan Vasilyonok, who happens to be here too. There are also the loader Serafim Ionov and the gunner Demyan Volchok. At first the soldiers are skeptical, but then they trust their new commanding officer. The men get the order from Jäger to repair the tank, but first to get the dead crew out of it. They found four armor-piercing projectiles and two HE shells in the tank that had been overlooked by the Germans. Under the pretext of wanting to bury the fallen, they manage to hide the six cartridges on the tank training area. Ivushkin plans to flee with the tank and make his way into Czechoslovakia .

During the time the tank is being repaired, Ivushkin and Anya get closer. Anya warns Nikolay that the Germans laid mines around the training area to prevent the tank crew from escaping. She also asks to be taken away, as she would rather die by his side than remain in captivity. Ivushkin refuses, however.

While the men secretly fetch the tank ammunition from their hiding place on the day of the battle and get the T-34/85 ready for action, Anya sneaks into Jäger's office with a duplicate key , steals a map from his desk and leaves the camp around the Watching tanks on the road.

Because of the mines, Ivushkin decides to break through the main gate of the site with the tank. At the beginning of the battle, the men create a curtain of smoke as a distraction before they shoot down one of the German V Panther armored vehicles. In the general confusion, they manage to approach the German observation tower and destroy it with an explosive shell. Most of the people die in it, only Jäger and Guderian escape at the last moment. After the Soviet tank had smashed the luxury cars of the Nazis in the parking lot, the men break through the main gate with it as planned and flee on the street with no mines. They meet Anya at a bus stop, who hands Ivushkin the stolen card and is now taken away.

In a small town, the refugees first get food, civilian clothes and diesel fuel and burn their prisoner clothes before they continue their journey. In the meantime, Jäger had roadblocks erected, but Ivushkin managed to bypass them cross-country with his tank. But Jäger does not give up. After a reconnaissance flight with a Fieseler Storch he can pick up the trail of the fugitives again and decides them in Klingenthal an ambush lay. However, Nikolay realizes the danger. After resting at a lake in the forest, he tells Anya to walk around the place and wait in a pasture. If the men do not show up by the next evening, she should make her way east on foot alone.

In Klingenthal, the men met four German panthers with their T-34/85 that night. They manage to destroy three of them, one after the other, seriously injuring Volchok. Now besides Ivushkin's T-34 there is only Jäger's Panther left. Both men open the commander's hatch on their tank. Hunter literally tosses Ivushkin a gauntlet . Ivushkin asks for a five-minute truce in order to be able to rescue the wounded Volchok.

The showdown finally takes place on a bridge at the end of the town . Both tanks are badly damaged and the T-34 loses a chain . Finally, Jäger falls from the bridge into the river with his panther. Ivushkin, Vasilyonok and Ionov set off on foot to the cattle pasture, carrying Volchok with them, and there they meet Anya.

During the credits you can see how the men are back home and go about their everyday activities there. Nikolay Ivushkin returns to his mother and introduces her to Anya, who is apparently pregnant.

n-tv.de described the T-34 as “captivating World War II action” and a film that is well worth seeing and “which never gets bored. As a spectator, you are excited and excited to see the showdown at the end of the film. "

The Moscow German newspaper ruled that T-34 was a “film without discordant tones and probing questions, but instead with an effective retelling of the old story” and wrote: “If you could choose, after 139 minutes you would be“ T-34 ” Russian".
