The gymnastics and sports club Stein 1875 e. V. was founded on March 8, 1875 in Stein near Nuremberg in Bavaria in Central Franconia .

history

From the founding years until 1932

The founding fathers of what was then the Stein gymnastics club came from the workforce of a business enterprise that was dominant at the time, the Faber-Castell pencil factory . From the list of associations from 1880 it can be seen that Friedrich Forster was given as the first board member at that time. At the 10th anniversary, the association already had 70 members. The number of members rose steadily in the following years. For its 25th anniversary, the association has a membership of 100.

With the support of Count Alexander von Faber-Castell, the association was able to acquire a gymnastics area on which a tool shed was inaugurated on August 18, 1901. In the period from 1903 to 1913, a women's, a singing and a men's team developed within the club. In addition, at this time (1877) today's “City of Stein volunteer fire brigade” emerged from the gymnastics community at that time.

With the outbreak of the First World War , many members went to war. A concert was given to welcome those returning home in 1919 and in memory of those who died in the war.

In April 1921, the original gymnastics club merged with the city football club and the strength sports club and founded the "Gymnastics and Sports Association Stein von 1875 eV". A year later, a hockey department was added. The association was only subsequently entered in the Nuremberg Register of Associations . At that time the association had 537 members. Due to tensions between the departments, there was a separation. On January 10, 1924, the Turner announced their departure. Consequently, on March 8, 1924, the association was dissolved in its existing form. The departments became independent again.

On May 10, 1925, the foundation stone of the planned gymnasium was laid, in which the club's first Christmas party was held after completion. In the following years there were even more events in the hall. Among other things, we cooperated with other associations in the community and with the adjacent school to rent out the hall. Part of the costs caused by the construction could thus be covered again.

1933 to 1945

After the NSDAP came to power in 1933, requests were made to reorganize the associations. Like all other German gymnastics clubs, the TV Stein had to comply with the statutes and rules of the "German Reichsbund für Leibesübungen" (from December 1938 " National Socialist Reichsbund für Leibesübungen "). The management of the club was transferred from the gymnastics council to a first leader At the wedding of Count Roland von Faber-Castell , the club was given the deed of donation for the gymnasium. This made it the property of the TV stone. During the war, the gymnasium was often misused, used as a military camp for German soldiers and occupied by refugees. After the end of the Second During the Second World War , the gymnasium was seized by US troops.

Post-war years

Influenced by the war years, attempts were made to slowly revive the club life, which was achieved by being appointed in 1946 as a “people's education association”. Among other things, theater was played and further departments were founded. There was also a full and a youth and student team in handball . When it was accepted into the Bavarian State Sports Association , a new founding meeting took place in 1947. A table tennis department and a women's gymnastics group were re-established in 1947 in the following year.

In 1950 the association was able to call itself the strongest association in the community with 646 members . The association built a club house, which was inaugurated and moved into in 1951. This was followed by the renaming of "Turnverein Stein 1875 eV" in "Turn und Sportverein Stein 1875 eV", in view of the fact that other sports were now being practiced in the club.

The support of voluntary club members and a donation from Roland Graf von Faber-Castell made it possible to build a state-of-the-art sports arena with changing rooms and sanitary facilities for the community in 1959. The footballers and school sports in particular benefited from this.

A slump came in 1965 when membership dropped, costly renovations and, ultimately, the gymnasium fire. Reconstruction could only be started again in November 1966. In order for this to be realized, part of the gymnasium had to be sold in 1969.

In the following 6 years a volleyball department was re-established and a table tennis department was resumed. In 1984 a tennis department followed. With the support of the city of Stein , which provided the necessary terrain, tennis could then be played on four established courts. In 1986 the tennis facility was expanded to include three more courts. The range of sports was expanded in 1987 with a karate and badminton department. A swimming department was added the following year.

Since 1989

Since the reunification , the association has succeeded in gaining members and building an office. Today the association has the largest number of members in its community and cooperates with the adjoining Stein grammar school and the secondary school. Various large anniversary events, as well as the presence of the association in the entire community, keeps the number of members growing.
