The TTC Rio-Star Muttenz was founded in 1956 and is a table tennis club in Switzerland. Rio star Muttenz is multiple Swiss team champion. From 2004 to 2015, the title was won eleven times in a row.

history

The TTC Rio-Star Muttenz was founded on March 1, 1956 as TTC Rio-Star Basel . Halls of various restaurants initially served as play areas. In 1977 the first team rose to the National League C. In 1985 the company moved to the Kriegackerturnhallen in Muttenz , which is still the main venue of the club and the venue for all championship games. The club name was changed with the move to the table tennis club Rio-Star Muttenz . 1989 the first team of promotion to the National League B, in which they until the season 2003 / 2004 was represented continuously. In March 2002, the young Chinese Jia Shun Hu was signed as a player in the first men's team at the TTC Rio Star Muttenz. With him began the Rio-Stars success story. By winning the Swiss Cup for the first time in 2007 , the double was achieved for the first time. Winning the double was possible in 2008 ; 2010 ; 2011 ; 2012 ; 2013 ; 2014 ; and 2015 ; be repeated. On October 23, 2007 , the young Rio-Star player, Nicola Mohler, was presented with the Northwestern Switzerland Young Sports Prize . On December 7th, 2012 , the young player Lionel Weber was honored to receive the Baselbieter Sportförderpreis 2012. In 2014 the club hosted the Swiss STT Elite Championships in Muttenz. Elia Schmid , who grew up in Meiringen and was playing his first season for Rio-Star , was celebrated as the winner in the men's singles. In the final he defeated his club colleague Lionel Weber. The women became Swiss team champions for the first time in 2014 thanks to a success at TTC Neuhausen . By winning the qualifying tournament in Cairo Elijah Schmid secured in 2014 the participation of the Youth Olympic Games 2014 in Nanjing (CHN) . In 2015 Lionel Weber also won the Swiss STT Elite title in the men's singles. In the same year, the 11th Swiss team championship title was won in a row.
