Taizé Maulais is a commune Déléguée in the French municipality of Plaine-et-Vallées with 760 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine in the department of Deux-Sevres .
geography
The rural Commune déléguée is located in the north of the Deux-Sèvres department at the confluence of the Thouet and the Thouaret , on the D37 department road about 10 km south-east of Thouars .
The area of the Commune déléguée includes the districts of Auboué , Ligaine , Maranzais , Maulais and Taizé , where Maulais was previously independent and was incorporated on January 1, 1973.
The place is known nationwide thanks to its sugar melon cultures . In addition, the municipality vinifies wines that may be marketed under the Vins du Thouarsais VDQS designation of origin .
history
With nine dolmens and a tumulus , Taizé is the most important megalithic site in the Deux-Sèvres department ( necropolis of Monpalais ). In the municipality, at the place with the field name Fief de Boué , building ruins from Gallo-Roman times were uncovered. The place with the field name La butte de Montcoué was the scene of a battle between the counties of Anjou and Poitou in 1033 .
On January 1, 2019, the Taizé-Maulais community merged with Oiron , Saint-Jouin-de-Marnes and Brie to form the Commune nouvelle Plaine-et-Vallées. Since then it has had the status of a Commune déléguée. The municipality of Taizé-Maulais belonged to the canton of Le Val de Thouet and the arrondissement of Bressuire .

The originally independent municipality of Maulais was incorporated into Taizé on January 1, 1973.

- One of the dolmens has been a listed building since 1991. It is called Dolmen E 134 and is located on the D37 department road on the property with the field name La Pierre levée .
