Chief Inspector Felix Murot is called to the crime scene by his assistant Magda Wächter, but she dismisses her because he is free and wants to visit his old friend Walter Brenner. Brenner, Murot's former partner at the time of the RAF , and his colleague Cynthia Roth are stationed as technical supervisors in a former police station that now serves as a police museum and is located far away in a demolished former settlement on the outskirts of Offenbach . It is a hot summer day, and presenter Ecki is constantly reporting on the radio about the impending total solar eclipse . A prisoner transport with three guards and six offenders has a flat tire nearby, and the guards drive in front of the guard to change their tires under their protection.

At the same time, the young girl, Jenny, passes an ice cream stand with her father and finds the seller shot behind the counter. Then the car of the gang members pulls up, who shoot the father with a silenced gun. The girl manages to shoot one of the men with the seller's gun and, pursued by the gang, flees to the old guard. This is meanwhile also attacked by a group of armed men, while guard Manfred and four prisoners in the transporter are shot. In the hail of bullets, Murot and Brenner bring the survivors, guard Frank and the two prisoners Kermann and Charly, from the transporter into the house, Roth is slightly wounded and guard Jörg was also able to escape into the guard building. Rüdiger Kermann, the cannibal from Peine , and Murot know each other from before. Since the guard's phone line was cut, Roth's cell phone was damaged and Murot left his in the car, the trapped people reactivate a remote-controlled explosive ordnance disposal robot and manage to get Murot 's phone out of his car. Murot reaches his assistant Wächter, but through her torrent of words he cannot explain her plight, and then his battery is empty.

In view of the impending solar eclipse, the survivors at the station organize the defense. Murot decides to arm the two prisoners too, to improve their chances of survival. During the minutes of twilight, the besiegers attempt to overrun the guard. The attack can be repulsed, but Charly and Frank are killed. Numerous attackers are also killed. Murot realizes that neo-Nazi and Islamist gangs have allied for the attack on the police museum. Without notifying the others, Jörg flees through a sewer. Just as he is about to run away in a car, he is shot from the back seat. Meanwhile, Roth succeeds in converting an old radio set into a simple transmitter and thus interfering with Ecki's radio broadcast with her cry for help. Ecki translates the Morse code while the program is running, and Wächter, who only realized after hours that Murot was in danger, goes to the police station in a patrol car. The besiegers have now launched a new major attack here, and the besieged are now also fleeing into the sewer system, where they reach the lower part of the still-filled petrol tank of the former petrol station. The already badly battered Brenner sacrifices himself by setting the gasoline on fire and thus taking out the pursuers, with the entire guard being blown up. The survivors get outside and are soon discovered by Wächter. After Murot and Roth decide to see each other again soon, Murot is observed through a sniper's telescopic sight before Ecki finally moderates the new day.
