Where did my darling go? (Working title: Abyss ) is a television film from the television crime series Tatort , which was first broadcast on April 22, 2019 in Das Erste. In this 1091st crime scene episode, the Bremen inspectors Lürsen and Stedefreund investigate their 39th and last case.

action

During construction work on a road, the body of an unknown woman is discovered by chance. The killer had strangled her quite professionally with a wire and hid her in a plastic bag in the gravel under a road that was about to be renovated. During the autopsy it is found that the entire body was meticulously cleaned with formaldehyde and that the perpetrator did not leave any traces. The inspectors Lürsen and Stedefreund quickly find out that the dead woman was working for a dubious real estate development company, against whose illegal financial transactions the BKA officials Maller and Kempf are already investigating. The managing director of this company is Vera Berlov, who is suspected of laundering money for her family clan and the Chechen mafia that her brother Adam Berlov gives her. In order to put the people down, the BKA smuggled Roger Stahl into the family as an undercover agent months ago, but fatally, Stahl fell in love with Vera Berlov and now has a child with her. The fact that the Criminal Police are now getting in the way of the BKA with murder investigations threatens their years of work even more. For Stedefreund, the appearance of Maller and Kempf is just as unpleasant, because he already had something to do with them a few years ago, which he initially concealed from his colleague. However, she notices very quickly that something is wrong with Stedefreund and that he seems very tense. In addition, he meets behind her back with the BKA people, what she finds out and expects a statement from him. But Stedefreund refuses, and so Lürsen calls for help from the BKA officer Linda Selb, with whom she has often worked well in the past. Lürsen learns from her that her colleague was not sent to a police training course in Afghanistan in 2013, as he had stated at the time, but had worked for Maller as an undercover investigator to break up a human trafficking ring in Germany.

For Maller and Kempf, meanwhile, the finale of their years of preparation is looming. According to Stahl, Adam Berlov will soon bring a large amount of money and with it the BKA officials could levy the clan and bring their informants in the witness protection to safety. However, Stedefreund intervenes, who is certain that the BKA is behind it because of the location of the murder victim. The confrontation fails and Stedefreund only turns Maller and Kempf against themselves with this action. He could not find out the reason why Martina Koch had to die. But his colleague delivers, because when evaluating the victim's internet activities, it is clear that Koch had a lively sex life and was also interested in Roger Stahl. In doing so, she got on the track of his V-Mann activity and became a danger. Lürsen therefore considers steel to be the murderer. Stedefreund sees it differently, however, and the two of them quarrel. Since Lürsen can no longer watch how her colleague seems to be mentally distancing himself more and more from her, she finally urges him to talk about his past. He succeeds and he speaks for the first time about his trauma at the time. During the questionable mission, everyone involved was killed, including his colleague at the time. Maller and Kempf then arranged for the "disposal" of the corpses and sent Stedefreund back to Bremen, where he had to pretend nothing had happened. Since the bodies were deposited under fresh asphalt in 2013, Stedefreund is convinced that Martina Koch is also responsible for Maller and Kempf. However, there is no evidence of this. In order to get this, the investigators let the cover of Roger Stahl explode and want to get him to testify against Maller and Kempf, or to convict them of a crime. According to Lürsen's assumption, the two intend to break away with the millions that will soon be “delivered”. But the situation escalates when Adam Berlov arrives and the BKA gets hold of it. Stedefreund stood in front of Lürsen to protect himself and was fatally hit by several shots from Kempf.

As Lürsen expected, Maller grabs the bag with the millions and Linda Selb arrests him.

Reviews

Christian Buß from Spiegel Online judged: “Baxmeyer also staged this farewell episode [...] in which Commissioner Stedefreund is exaggerated like Liam Neeson in his many revenge thrillers and in the [sic] the drug shock treatments of the corrupt BKA investigators like appear in a Tarantino film. "

At tittelbach.tv Thomas Gehringer evaluates: "The last case for the Bremen 'Tatort' inspectors Lürsen (Sabine Postel) and Stedefreund (Oliver Mommsen) will be an acid test for their friendship." The viewer is presented with "an entertaining and exciting friendship drama , embedded in a sometimes very violent crime thriller. "" It's less about plausibility and 'realism' here, rather everything is designed for the showdown at the end, as it were in pairs. "

Filmstarts.de wrote: “You may well overlook the bumpy cobbled-together story, but when you look at the characters, major weaknesses are revealed: The crazy BKA investigators Maller and Kempf simply act far from reality, while the hypothermic Vera Berlov and At no time does she buy the happy couple from her partner Roger Stahl, who is said to be so deeply in love with her. […] Not all actors act at the top in terms of acting either - some extras and small actors act so stiff and wooden that these scenes should have been completely deleted. In the end, Lürsen and Stedefreund go into 'Tatort' retirement with a big bang - but not with a convincing Sunday thriller. "
