The Tauberphilharmonie Weikersheim ( proper spelling : TauberPhilharmonie Weikersheim ) is a concert and event house in Weikersheim that was opened in July 2019. The building owner is the city of Weikersheim.
building
purpose
The Tauberphilharmonie serves as a replacement building for the Alte Stadthalle Weikersheim for concerts and music events as well as for congresses, meetings and private festivities. The main user is the Weikersheim Music Academy , which is operated by Jeunesses Musicales Germany , which brings around 9,000 young people to Weikersheim every year. With this, the city of Weikersheim wants to meet the high standards and - in the field of music and youth development - its international reputation as a city of culture.
Location and transport links
The building was erected on the Tauberwiesen site in the northern part of Weikersheim. The building site has parcel number 2742 in the Weikersheim district . It is located in the Tauberaue and thus in the “Westliches Tauberufer” development and green area plan , which was decided in 2004. The 1. The change to the development plan was presented on November 24, 2016 and decided on March 3, 2017.
With lines of sight to Weikersheim Castle and the St. Georg Church , the new building is in dialogue with the town center of Weikersheim on the other side of the Taubersheim.
In terms of transport, the new concert hall will be connected via the roundabout located directly to the north , into which the Romantic Road and August-Laukhuff-Straße, which leads directly to Weikersheim's town center, flow. The Tauberwiesen car park with an area of 1.16 hectares and space for over 150 vehicles is already located to the west of the building site . There is also a charging station for electric vehicles here .
From the southern end of this parking lot, a wooden box-girder bridge leads over the Tauber to the lodging house of the Weikersheim Music Academy in Heiligen Wöhr .
architecture
The new concert hall consists of two cubic components that appear to have been pushed into one another, which are of different sizes and heights. The floor plan of the building is roughly in the shape of a pentagon , the longest side of which is around 65 m long. The building has two floors . The maximum ridge height is 11.5 m. The built-up area is approx. 2,570 m²; the gross floor area 3,092 m². In these two parts there are several event halls (for details see event halls ), as well as several adjoining rooms. The event halls are connected via the spacious visitor foyer. The glass front of this foyer - the only larger opening in the building - faces the city and serves as the main entrance.
A smaller staff entrance and the separate delivery area on the opposite side of the visitor foyer can be used to access the stages, catering area, artists' dressing rooms as well as all voting rooms , administration and ancillary rooms.
The air conditioning of all rooms is carried out by a sustainable, geothermal energy system using a heat pump .
Materials and construction execution
Although the building is located in the flood-free area of the property, parts of the foundation must be designed as a white tank due to the very high maximum groundwater level due to the close proximity to the river . Because of the soft subsoil, a deep foundation with reinforced concrete bored piles is used.
Reinforced concrete is used throughout for the load-bearing parts of the building . The large hall, the associated roof and the walls of the small hall are completely solid due to the high acoustic requirements . Wood is used for the remaining exterior and interior walls and for the roofs.
Except for the glass front of the foyer facing the city, all other windows and glass surfaces are integrated into the wooden facade of the building so that they do not disturb the uniform, closed effect of the building. The concert hall is to become a walk-in, wooden structure that cites the sound bodies of the musical instruments of classical music .
Event halls
The building has two event halls of different sizes. The large hall can accommodate up to 650 people, the small hall up to 200 people. Both halls can also be used in combination, for example for exhibitions. In the project presentation "New Culture and Event Center Weikersheim" (see literature ) there is a third event hall, the so-called choir hall, which is much smaller in terms of its floor space. In this plan it is also considered that all event halls can be combined with one another in the scenario of the so-called "large event". The chairs for the audience are set up in all rooms in such a way that the direction of view of the guests points to the foyer, which then functions as the central stage.
Project progress
In 2009/2010 the city of Weikersheim carried out a feasibility study . In June / July 2011 a citizens' congress took place at which the decision was made against the renovation of the old town hall and for the construction of a new concert and event hall. 36 representatives of the local associations as well as citizens of the city took part in this citizens' congress. On December 11, 2011, the building authority of the city of Weikersheim, in cooperation with the office of Prof. Schmid, drivers and partners from Leonberg and the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects, announced an international architectural competition for the design of the new event building. The jury of the competition decided on December 7, 2012 in favor of the design by the HENN architects' office . The preliminary draft planning was decided in December 2012. On May 4, 2013, the office of Prof. Schmid, drivers and partners from Leonberg was commissioned to plan and design the outdoor facilities of the new concert hall. In July / August 2013 the draft planning / approval planning and in March 2014 the implementation planning was decided.
The Main-Tauber District District Office issued the building permit on May 19, 2014.
The project was then suspended for the time being, as the financing was not yet fully secured. Only the commitment of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety in the maximum funding amount of four million euros made the full financing for the city at all possible. (For details see financing )
Construction work began at the end of April 2017, and the official groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 19, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. on the construction site. Actively involved were MdL Prof. Wolfgang Reinhart , District Administrator Reinhard Frank , Mayor Klaus Kornberger, Christiane Geier and Peter Rösch from the City Council of Weikersheim, Prof. Dr.-Ing.Architekt Gunter Henn , Peter Bäuml and Julian Hildenbrand (all three from HENN Architects ), Dr. Ulrich Wüster (General Secretary of Jeunesses Musicales Germany , Weikersheim) and Magnus Windelen (Managing Director of Aug. Laukhuff GmbH & Co. KG , Weikersheim).
The previous building, the Alte Stadthalle Weikersheim at August-Laukhuff-Straße 12, was demolished in spring 2018. The Lidl group bought the site from the city of Weikersheim before November 24, 2016 and is planning to build a Lidl supermarket there.
Naming
In August 2016, almost 40 interested citizens came together to form a support association for the new project. The “naming” working group of the sponsoring association, which is still in the process of being founded, was looking for a suitable name for the new culture and event center. In the public workshop on March 11, 2017, the name "Taubertal Philharmonie" was changed to "Tauber Philharmonie Weikersheim". The alternative name “Auditorio Weikersheim” also emerged from this workshop. A total of over 60 suggestions came from the population at this event. Only two names, namely “Tauber Philharmonie Weikersheim” and “Auditorio Weikersheim”, were given to the municipal council for a final vote. In the meeting on March 24, 2017, the local council decided on the name "Tauber Philharmonie Weikersheim" for the new culture and event center.
Apparently, the name has become generally accepted in the slightly modified form "Tauber Philharmonic Weikersheim" (without the first space).
Ulrich Wüster, Secretary General of Jeunesses Musicales Germany , proposed exactly this name "TauberPhilharmonie Weikersheim" on July 14, 2016.
costs
In December 2015, the architect calculated total gross costs of approx. 13.1 million euros (for composition and exclusions see source).
After the construction work only started in the second quarter of 2017 and this will probably run until mid-2019 and the house without the above Exclusions (cf.) would not be usable for the intended purpose, the price increase expected by the project management is to be applied for the period of delay and the additional costs (in an unknown amount) for the mentioned exclusions must be added. The architect set the price increase in the estimated (partial) gross costs, which was decisive for the construction project, at 7.9% in the period from 2013 to 2014 and at 2.5% in the period from 2014 to 12/2015. If you continue to calculate with the lower increase factor of 2.5% / 18 months, you get to the completion of the construction work according to the above (partial) list on gross costs of:
- on completion in June 2017: approx. 13.43 million euros (was not made within the time)
- on completion in December 2018: approx. 13.76 million euros
- on completion in June 2020: approx. 14.11 million euros
financing
For the remaining financing that was still required on April 18, 2017, Mayor Klaus Kornberger assumed a gross volume of around 11.9 million euros. 1.29 million euros have already been spent on planning services.
These remaining costs are currently financed as follows:
- Federal program for the renovation of sports, youth and cultural facilities of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety : 4,000,000 euros
- State renovation program (LSP) of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg : 1,926,000 euros
- Financing from the city of Weikersheim: 4,252,000 euros
- Third-party funds ( donations ): 650,000 euros
- Main-Tauber district: 500,000 euros
- Compensating stick: 570,000 euros
- Total: 11,898,000 euros
Even if one assumes costs of 13.43 million euros (due to the set price increase) by the end of 2018 / mid-2019, the financing is missing 240,000 euros. Added to this are the additional costs for the exclusions (see) in an unknown amount.
Directorship
On May 1, 2018, Johannes Mnich took up his position as artistic director ; he prevailed against 28 applicants in the application process.
