Team SoloMid (short TSM ) is a company founded in January 2011 e-sports team. It is particularly known for its successful League of Legends team, which - as of December 2013 - has earned several hundred thousand dollars in prize money. In addition to the former title sponsor Snapdragon ( Qualcomm ), the team has numerous other sponsors, including Corsair , Kingston HyperX and Asus .
The Gamespot portal accompanied the team in the documentary series Gamecrib , of which two seasons were filmed. Classic media such as Forbes Magazine have also reported on TSM.
In January 2014 a team was signed for the game Smite . In 2015, a successful Danish team was involved in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , which, however, left the organization at the end of 2015.
history
League of Legends
TSM was founded in January 2011 by Andy "Reginald" Dinh. He previously operated the community portal solomid.net together with his brother Dan Dinh . After a few line-up changes, TSM quickly became one of the most successful North American teams in League of Legends. In the first World Cup in League of Legends at DreamHack 2011, the team finished third. This was followed by further top placements at the Intel Extreme Masters 2011 in Cologne (second place) and the Major League Gaming in Providence 2011 (first place). At the World Cyber Games , two TSM members each played for Team USA and Team Canada and took first place (USA) and third place (Canada).
In 2012 TSM won two other major LAN tournaments with the IGN ProLeague 4 and the Major League Gaming Spring Championship and qualified for the World Championships again by winning the North American Regional Finals . There the team was defeated in the quarterfinals by the later finalist Azubu Frost from South Korea. With the introduction of the League Championship Series (LCS) in 2013, TSM consolidated its status as the best North American team in the spring season. In the summer season, however, the team was defeated by the newcomer Cloud 9 . With the second place the qualification for the season highlight succeeded - however, the team did not get beyond the group stage at the 2013 World Cup.
In November 2013 the Danish midlane player Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg was transferred from Ninjas in Pajamas to TSM, so that Andy "Reginald" Dinh, who previously worked as a manager and player, can concentrate entirely on administrative tasks.
After the spring split of the LCS 2014, the last of the five founding members was replaced with Brian “TheOddOne” Wyllie. The German player Maurice "Amazing" Stückenschneider (previously Copenhagen Wolves) was signed as a replacement. Due to internal problems, Alex "Xpecial" Chu was replaced by the former Cloud9 Tempest player Nicolas "Gleebglarbu" Haddad. In addition, the former TSM player Choi "Locodoco" Yoon-sub was signed as a coach. Support player Nicolas "Gleebglarbu" Haddad was replaced during the summer split 2014 by Korean Ham "Lustboy" Jang-sik. At the 2014 World Cup, the team made the leap from the group stage to the quarter-finals, but lost to eventual tournament winner Samsung White .
In 2015 TSM was able to achieve a place in the final of both LCS splits, but the team was eliminated in the group phase of the World Cup. Thereupon three players announced their departure from the team: Marcus “Dyrus” Hill , Ham “Lustboy” Jang-sik and Lucas “Santorin” Larsen, who was signed for the jungle position at the end of 2014. ADC Jason “WildTurtle” Tran also switched to Immortals for the 2016 Spring Split.
With the only remaining Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg , TSM ventured a fresh start. Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell for the top lane, Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen for the jungle, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng as ADC and Bora “YellOwStaR” Kim as supporter were hired . After a weak regular split, the lineup reached 2nd place in the playoffs. For the summer split, Bora “YellOwStaR” Kim switched to Fnatic . He was replaced by Vincent "Biofrost" Wang. TSM was able to dominate both the regular split and the playoffs and thus won the summer split. They qualified for the Worlds 2016 , but were eliminated in the group stage against Samsung Galaxy and RNG.
For the Spring Split 2017 TSM is back with Jason "WildTurtle" Tran as ADC, because Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng wanted to take a break from playing. During the spring split, however, doublelift was given to Team Liquid , as they had big problems and were at the bottom of the table. TSM finished the split in first place and qualified for the Mid-Season Invitational . There they ran into problems early on with the Vietnamese team GIGABYTE Marines . They were eliminated in the group stage.
Expansion into other esports titles
In January 2014 TSM signed a European Smite Team, which in March 2014 achieved first place in the Smite Launch Tournament , endowed with around 105,000 dollars .
TSM signed the CS: GO lineup from the former team Dignitas at the end of January 2015 after their players refrained from extending their contract with the British organization. The team finished third at the 2015 MLG X-Games in Aspen on the same day . The successes of the CS: GO lineup in 2015 included victories in the FACEIT League 2015 (Stage 1 and 2), in the PGL (CS: GO Season 1) or at the Fragbite Masters (Season 4). In the major tournaments , the team never made it to the final. On December 3rd, TSM split from the Danish CS: GO team. On January 19, 2016, a new American lineup in this discipline was presented.
