Tekele Cotton (born May 27, 1993 ) is an American basketball player who played basketball professionally in Germany after completing his studies in his home country . After his rookie season in the 2015/16 basketball Bundesliga for the first division club MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, the latter only brought Cotton back into his squad shortly before the start of the 2016/17 basketball Bundesliga .

Career

Cotton graduated from Whitefield Academy in Mableton , Georgia . After high school, he got a scholarship to Wichita State University , where he was active from 2011 for the college team Shockers in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) of the NCAA . Under coach Gregg Marshall, the Shockers were able to improve further and in Cottons four-year season they had their most successful period to date, when they won the MVC three main rounds and won the MVC championship tournament unbeaten in 2014 throughout the season. For the first time in their history, the Shockers were represented four times in a row in the national NCAA finals and for the first time in almost 50 years they reached the prestigious Final Four in 2013 , where they were in the lead in the semifinals for a long time from the eventual title winner Louisville Cardinals , among others the later Bundesliga professional Peyton Siva were intercepted and lost with 68:72. In the following season, the team came undefeated to the MVC tournament throughout the season and was able to defeat all opponents with a double-digit point difference in the championship tournament, also known as the March Madness Arch Madness . Cotton was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament after the final . Undefeated, Wichita State was the first team in almost a quarter of a century to reach the national finals, in which they were stopped in the second game by a very young team from the Kentucky Wildcats and only missed the win with the last throw. The Wildcats, which got started late that season due to their many freshmen , were only stopped in the final by the Connecticut Huskies and set a new starting record in the following season with 38 wins in a row until they reached the final again. Without Cleanthony Early , who had finished his studies and was selected in the NBA Draft 2014 , the Shockers could not defend their MVC title in 2015, although Cotton was named "Defensive Player of the Year" by the MVC for the second time in a row . Despite a win over the favored Kansas Jayhawks , Cotton's successful college career ended in Sweet Sixteen in 2015 after a loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish . At the end of his NCAA career, Cotton was not only the player with the most appearances (141) in the history of the Shockers, but also the player with the most wins (120) and the highest win rate (85.1%).

After Cotton i was not selected in the 2015 NBA Draft , he played in the 2015 NBA Summer League for the Oklahoma City Thunder , but did not make it into the club's season squad in the most highly endowed professional league, the NBA . Instead, he signed his first contract as a professional player with the German first division club MHP Riesen from Ludwigsburg . In international club competition Eurocup 2015/16 , the club played one of his so far most successful international competitions and missed in the group stage of the best 32 teams only just because of the poorer direct comparison it into the K.-O. - Rounds in the round of 16. In the basketball Bundesliga 2015/16 , the “Barockstädter” achieved their best position since 2007 on the fifth main round place . In the first play-off round, however, like two years before, they lost to FC Bayern Munich , even if this time they only had to admit defeat in the all-important fifth game. The following summer, Cotton played in the 2016 NBA Summer League for the Detroit Pistons , with whom he also reached the final of the tournament in Orlando (Florida) . After he couldn't find a place in an NBA club's seasonal squad again, Cotton only signed a new contract with the MHP Giants in mid-September 2016, shortly before the start of the 2016/17 basketball Bundesliga .
