Tha Blue Carpet Treatment received mostly positive reviews.

David Jeffries reviewed for the music database Allmusic and sees the album only superficially as a reaction to the crossover of its predecessor R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece . The title alludes to Snoop Dogg's gang past and the associated dichotomy (Crip = blue / Blood = red) of the Westcoast rapper, in order to give him street credibility again. In the end, however, it becomes obvious that Dogg celebrates his entire career on the album.

Sean Fennessey of the online independent music magazine Pitchfork Media doesn't think the album is so much a rejection of pop either. Rather, it is a conscious attempt to integrate gangsta rap with accessibility, as in the collaborations with R. Kelly and Akon . Because Snoop Dogg has little to offer thematically and intellectually, his selection of the perfect collaboration partners creates variety. The combination of partners is sometimes obvious and sometimes stimulating.
