The French Dispatch is a Wes Anderson film that was last scheduled to hit theaters in October 2020. The film was included in the Official Selection of the Cannes International Film Festival 2020 .

The project received production funding of 500,000 euros from the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg .

Filming began in the city of Angoulême in southwest France in November 2018 and ended in March 2019. Robert Yeoman acted as cameraman .

The trailer was presented in February 2020. The film was originally scheduled to hit US cinemas on July 24, 2020. A cinema release in Germany was planned for September 10, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the US launch date has been postponed to October 16, 2020. The new German theatrical release should take place a day earlier. In July 2020, however, the October start date was also canceled. It was also included in the program of the Cannes International Film Festival , which will take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic under changed conditions, and should have been shown here outside of the competition.

Age rating

In the USA, the film received an R rating from the MPAA , which corresponds to a rating of 17 and over.
