history
Foundation and The Union
The band was formed in 2011 by brothers Brett and Jay Emmonds, Andrew Young, Chris Huot and Adam Paquette. Two years later, the band made their debut with the EP Shapeless Art , which was produced by John-Angus MacDonald and released on their own. The Canadian record label Black Box Music became aware of the band and signed them at the end of 2013. At the same time the EP was re-released. The Glorious Sons toured Canada with bands like Head of the Herd , The Balconies and Teenage Kicks .
In March 2014 the band recorded their debut album The Union , which was also produced by John-Angus MacDonald and released on September 14, 2014. The album reached number 23 on the Canadian album charts , while the single White Noise was number three on the Canadian rock charts. The Glorious Sons toured Canada as supporting act for Airbourne and The Trews and in the USA as supporting act for 10 Years . The Union was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2015 Juno Awards , but the award went to Arkells . For this, the band was recognized at the SiriusXM Indie Awards 2015 in the categories Group or Duo of the Year and Rock Artist of the Year . Also in 2015 Andrew Young left the band and was replaced by Chris Koster.
Young Beauties and Fools and A War on Everything
After the band played at festivals such as Rock on the Range , Rocklahoma , Northern Invasion and Carolina Rebellion in the summer of 2016 , they recorded their second studio album Young Beauties and Fools in Los Angeles in early 2017 with the producer group Fast Friends . Before the album was released on October 13, 2017, The Glorious Sons signed new record deals with BMG Rights Management for the USA and Australia and with Earache Records for Europe and Japan . Young Beauties and Fools debuted at number 16 on the Canadian album charts before the band toured supporting Greta Van Fleet in autumn 2017 . The singles Everything Is Alright and Josie each reached number two on the Canadian rock charts.
The third single from the album SOS (Sawed Off Shotgun) surpassed this success. After the song reached number one on the Canadian rock charts, it also climbed to number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs in January 2019 , making it the most played song on US rock radio. Young Beauties and Fools was honored in the Rock Album of the Year category at the Juno Awards 2018 . On June 26, 2018, the Glorious Sons opened for the Rolling Stones as part of their No Filter Tour . The concert took place in the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille . In addition, The Glorious Sons played in the opening act for Struts , Franz Ferdinand and the Imagine Dragons as well as at European festivals such as the Hurricane Festival , the Southside and the Reading and Leeds Festivals .
On February 23, 2019, The Glorious Sons appeared as part of the 2019 NHL Stadium Series in the second third break of the ice hockey game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins . The band then worked in their hometown with producer Frederik Thaae on their third studio album, A War on Everything . The album was released on September 13, 2019 and reached number 13 on the Canadian album charts. The first single Panic Attack reached number one on the Canadian rock charts.
The Juno Awards 2020 was A War on Everything in the category rock album of the Year Award. In addition, The Glorious Sons received nominations in the categories of Best New Rock / Alternative Rock Artist and Rock Song of the Year for the song SOS (Sawed Off Shotgun) at the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2020 .
style
James Christopher Monger from online magazine Allmusic described The Glorious Sons as a simple, everyone-rock band in the style of The Tragically Hip , The Headstones , The Arkells and The Trews. For Andreas Schiffmann from the online magazine Musikreviews.de , the band plays expansive indie rock with scratchy “ garage ” guitar licks that would be as flippant as early Oasis .
