The Hamptons, Long Island AVA (recognized May 16, 1985) is a wine-growing region in the US state of New York . The area is located in the eastern part of the administrative area of Suffolk County and includes the southern peninsula on the northeast tip of Long Island . The vineyards of the northern peninsula are grouped together in the North Fork of Long Island AVA .

The wine-growing region lies on an east-west oriented peninsula with a length of 87 km (54 mi) and a maximum width of 16 km (10.0 mi).

The microclimate of the vineyards is positively influenced by the water masses of the Atlantic Ocean and Peconic Bay . The growing season for the vines is approximately 1 month longer in this part of the state than in other regions. This enables the cultivation of the Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape varieties known from Bordeaux . The climate of the southern peninsula is a little cooler than that of the North Fork of Long Island AVA wine-growing region to the north, as fog is more common here. The soils consist mainly of silt and loam .
