The Lone Ranger is an American western series that first aired between 1949 and 1957. It is based on the radio play series of the same name on the US radio station WXYT from 1933.

action

John Reid is the sole survivor of a group of Texas Rangers who were ambushed while pursuing a gang of criminals. The Indian Tonto finds the seriously injured ranger who saved Tonto's life years ago and nurses him back to health. After his recovery, the ranger, who was officially declared dead, decides to fight the crime as the masked avenger Lone Ranger . In addition to Tonto, his loyal companion is the white stallion Silver .

An old friend of Reid's, who is the only one who knows the true identity of the ranger besides Tonto, runs a silver mine . He supplies him with its trademark, silver balls.

After the production of the first 78 episodes, the production company officially cast the lead actor Clayton Moore through John Hart due to excessive pay demands. With him in the lead role, another 52 episodes were created. Although the Lone Ranger always wore a mask, Hart was not equally accepted by the audience, so Moore ultimately got the role back. By 1957, another 91 episodes were created, the last season of which was filmed in color for the first time.

German broadcast and title

The information can be found in some sources of information, some episodes of "The Lone Ranger" were broadcast in Germany from May 2, 1959 on ARD under the title Die Texas Rangers . This information comes from the lexicon of British and American series, television films and multi-part series and has been proven to be incorrect. There it is erroneously stated that the series shown in Germany was The Texas Rangers (the story of a famous police force) was originally called The Lone Ranger . In fact, the original title of this series was Tales of the Texas Rangers . In the Hörzu from May 2, 1959, the episode The Black Bandits from El Dorado is discussed and there are two pictures of the actors Harry Lauter and Willard Parker .
