The Power of Love is a 1985 Huey Lewis & the News song written by Huey Lewis , Johnny Colla and Chris Hayes . The song is part of the soundtrack for the film Back to the Future .

history

The single The Power of Love was released on June 17, 1985, the title has a length of 3:53 minutes, on the B-side is the song Bad Is Bad . The single became a number one hit in the United States , Canada, and Australia . Outside the United States, the track was part of the album Fore! , in the USA it was not included on the LP .

John Benitez ("Jellybean") made a remix of the song with a length of 7:10 minutes, which was released as a maxi single. The B-side of the maxi featured live versions of the songs But It's All Right and I Want a new Drug .

At the beginning of the movie Back to the Future , The Power of Love could be heard when Marty McFly went to school on a skateboard. In a band competition in the film, McFly played the song with his band "Pinheads", the chairman of the jury, played by Huey Lewis, then called his own song "a bit too loud" for the school competition. The song is also recorded in other places in the film, for example when McFly's future girlfriend hands him a note with her phone number. The title was also recorded in the second part of the film . In the music video , the band appears in a nightclub, and you can also see Dr. Emmet Brown and the De Lorean from the movie. The song was also nominated for the 1986 Academy Awards, but lost to Lionel Richie's classic Say You, Say Me .

The song won an American Music Award in 1986 in the Favorite Pop / Rock Single category. Prince gave the laudatory speech .

In the episode Baby Not on Board of Family Guy the song could be heard at a parody of Back to the Future.
