action
The series is about a 12-hour period in the USA, in which it is considered "patriotic" to participate in a so-called "purge". Murder is also not a criminal offense during this period. There are several storylines in the story, which at first suggest no connection, but which are brought together towards the end. While the clock is running down, the protagonists are confronted with their past and faced with seemingly insoluble internal conflicts. While a current reference could be assumed, the series actually makes no reference to real events. It plays with the American people's fear of an uncontrollable armed conflict in their own country. Although the upper class takes all possible safeguards in order to be able to participate in the purge night without becoming a victim themselves, these often fail. The series draws part of its tension from this. The upper class, represented by members of the NFFA, can no more escape the consequences of the “purge night” than many others. The NFFA, the "New Founding Fathers of America", is the ruling party that introduced the Purge.
characters
- Miguel Guerrero is a U.S. Marine. He returns home due to an enigmatic message from his sister Penelope and searches for her during the purge to protect her.
- Penelope Guerrero is Miguel’s sister. She has joined a cult whose members voluntarily sacrifice themselves on the purge night to give others the opportunity to get rid of their anger that night.
- Tavis is the leader of this cult who deliberately endangers her followers on Purge Night. However, she herself was hired by the NFFA to get rid of useless members of society.
- Jenna Betancourt is a staunch purge opponent devoted to charitable causes. She is at an NFFA member's party during the purge because of possible funding for her projects. Your morals will be put to the test there.
- Rick Betancourt is Jenna's husband. Their marriage begins to run into turmoil because of moral differences.
- Albert Stanton, a member of the "New Founding Fathers of America".
- Lila Stanton, Albert's daughter, has a common history with Jenna and Rick.
- Fed up with a sexist boss who kept her from advancing for years, Jane Barbour, a dedicated, hard-working finance professional, hires a hit man for Purge Night.
- David Ryker, the managing partner of Jane's investment firm, and her boss. Self-confident and powerful, David leads his team with cunning and intelligence. He seems like a huge supporter of Jane, but often gets in her way instead. David also has a secret of the Purge Night.
- Joe, an armored, masked, and seemingly ordinary man who drives around town, seemingly randomly picking up people while listening to the taped lectures of a motivational speaker.
