Roggendorf / Thenhoven is a northern district of Cologne on the left side of the Rhine , in the borough of Chorweiler . It is the second largest in terms of area after Eil , but one of the smaller Cologne districts in terms of population.
location
Most of the area consists of fields and the forest area of the Chorbusch, which merges into the Knechtstedener forest to the north . The Pletschbach, which flows into the Rhine at Worringen, flows through the village . To this day, the village has kept its rural and village charm with its many farms, some of which have been converted, some of which are still used for agriculture. In the north the district borders on Dormagen-Hackenbroich in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss and in the northeast on Worringen. Esch / Auweiler is south of Roggendorf / Thenhoven and Pulheim-Sinnersdorf is south-west in the Rhein-Erft district. In addition, the Worringer Bruch nature reserve and the Blumenberg district border the village to the east .
history
Thenhoven was first mentioned in 948 as Thiedinhove. In 1288, the Battle of Worringen took place near Thenhoven on the Fühlinger Heide . In 1298 a tapestry was mentioned by Tiedenhoven who sold a plot of land in Tiedenhoven to the Cologne Cathedral Monastery. A Jakob von Thedinhoven was mentioned in a medieval document dated June 21, 1306. Politically, Thenhoven and Roggendorf belonged to the glory of Worringen in the Electorate of Cologne until 1794 . In 1794, French rule began over the double village . Administratively, Roggendorf and Thenhoven were assigned to the Département de la Roer , Arrondissement Cologne , Canton Dormagen , Mairie Worringen. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the two villages came under the ownership of the Kingdom of Prussia and the mayor's office in Worringen in the Cologne district . The two street villages of Roggendorf (Sinnersdorfer Straße) and Thenhoven (Berrischstraße), which had already grown together in the 19th century, belonged to the mayor's office of Worringen until 1922. Quettinghofstraße forms the border between Thenhoven (odd house numbers) and Roggendorf (even numbers). On April 1, 1922, the Doppeldorf was incorporated into the city of Cologne. As a result of the regional reform on January 1, 1975, both villages were combined into one district because they were individually too small to form separate districts.

traffic
The Köln-Worringen train station is located on the border to the northern town of Worringen (but still in the Roggendorf / Thenhovener area), where the trains on DB lines S 11 (from Düsseldorf via Neuss and Cologne to Bergisch Gladbach ) and S 6 ( during rush hour in the direction of Köln Hbf and on to Essen). Trains run every 20 minutes from Monday to Friday, and every 30 minutes in the evenings, on weekends and on public holidays. During rush hour, the additional S 6 trains in the direction of Cologne-Mülheim run every 10 minutes. The Worringen junction of the A 57 is on the southern outskirts . The town is also connected to Worringen, Fühlingen and Chorweiler by bus line 120. In addition, there is a connection to the neighboring town of Pulheim-Sinnersdorf, to the cities of Pulheim and Frechen via bus line 980 and to the nearby town of Dormagen, to its district hospital, via line 885.
For over 30 years, the citizens' association has been campaigning for a bypass road that has been passing Roggendorf west of the A-57 exit Worringen / Sinnersdorf since 2006, greatly relieving the pressure on Sinnersdorfer Strasse and opening up traffic to Hackenbroich / Hackhausen, the Bayer factory in Dormagen and Worringen leads another way. Up to 13,000 motor vehicles, including many trucks, were counted on the previously quite narrow road in the southern area (now there are fewer than 3,000), most of which drove from or to the A 57 on weekdays. This is no longer possible because a turning hammer was built at the southern end of Sinnersdorfer Strasse. A few meters further west, the traffic is now rolling. You can now get to Roggendorf from the motorway via a roundabout on Straberger Weg at the golf course. A large part of the bypass runs immediately east of the golf course.
