The Archbishop's Theological College Veszprém , (Hungarian Veszprémi Érseki Hittudományi Főiskola , VHF for short ) is a non-governmental university under the direction of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Veszprém with its headquarters in Veszprém , Hungary .

history

The Archbishop's College in Veszprém is one of the oldest ecclesiastical universities in Hungary. It offers religious instruction, pastoral care and training for social workers and has been operating under the name of the Archbishop's Theological College Veszprém since 1991 .

The forerunner was a seminary founded by Bishop János Volkra in Veszprém in 1711. Initially, the seminar was located in the property of the local Piarist community . In 1745, the Wesprim bishop Márton Padányi Biró commissioned an extensive renovation of the seminary. Even during the wars from 1745 to 1952, operations continued uninterrupted. In March 1952, the communist government ordered the seminary to be closed. Several teachers have been interned or detained.

With the opening of the East in 1989 and the change of regime, Bishop József Szendi was able to reopen the seminary in 1991, until 1994 in cooperation with the local University of Veszprém . Since 2015 there has been a collaboration with the Hungarian Pannonian University , the French Université Catholique de l'Ouest and the German University of Passau .
