Thomas Beck (anatomist)

Thomas Beck (born October 5, 1957 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German anatomist , pharmacologist and toxicologist .

Life

Thomas Beck attended a school in Frankfurt am Main, where he graduated from high school in 1976 . He then studied pharmacy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He completed his studies in 1980 by passing the state examination. The next year he was licensed as a pharmacist and from then on worked as a research assistant at the Marburg Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology. The university earned him a doctorate in natural sciences in 1985, summa cum laude . His dissertation is entitled Autoradiographic Methods for Localizing and Quantifying the Effects of Drugs in the Rat's Brain and was written by Josef Krieglstein . In 1987 the German Society for Pharmacology and Toxicology recognized him as a specialist pharmacologist. Furthermore, from 1986 to 1989 he was a deputy member of the examination committee for the second section of the pharmaceutical examination in Marburg.

In 1988 Beck left Marburg. The next year he received a research grant from the German Research Foundation, through which he stayed as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University . After Germany, he returned in 1991 and became the Institute of Anatomy at the University of Würzburg research assistant, in 1992 he finally went into this office at the anatomical institute of the University of Rostock .

Beck completed his habilitation in pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Rostock in 1994 on the basis of a paper on pharmacological and neuroanatomical investigations into cerebral ischemia. The next year he received his teaching license for these subjects . The Anatomical Society recognized him as a specialist anatomist in 1997 and the next year he was also granted a license to teach anatomy. In 1999 he was also employed as a member of the examination committee for the Mecklenburg-Vorpommernsche Physikum , which he remained until 2005. From 2003 to 2006 he was also a member of the specialist commission for anatomy at the state medical association.

Beck became an adjunct professor of anatomy at the University of Rostock in 2005, in which year he also became a scientific advisor to the Federal Chamber of Pharmacists. In the next year he became an extraordinary member and chairman of the drug commission of the German pharmacists. He held the latter position until 2008. He has been a member of the Prescription Committee of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices since 2008.

Beck is a member of the following societies: The German Society for Pharmacology and Toxicology, the International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, the Anatomical Society, the German University Association and the Winckelmann Society .
