Thomas N. Rabe (born February 18, 1951 in Heidelberg ) is a German professor of gynecology and obstetrics at the Heidelberg University Hospital and author of various scientific publications and specialist books. He is the grandson of John Rabe .

Life

Medical career

Thomas N. Rabe studied medicine in Heidelberg. Since 1983 he has been a " specialist in gynecology and obstetrics". The main research areas were the steroid metabolism of the placenta , new methods of family planning , hormone therapy and the development of computer-aided teaching systems. After his unscheduled professorship for gynecology and obstetrics in 1991, he became senior physician at the University Women's Clinic and the Department of Gynecological Endocrinology and Fertility Disorders in Heidelberg .

From 1995 to 1999 he was responsible for the scientific activities of the WHO Collaborating Center ( Geneva ) at the University Women's Clinic. Rabe is also a member of the editorial board of numerous national and international magazines.

Grandfather John Rabe

Thomas Rabe is the grandson of John Rabe and is committed to coming to terms with the difficult past between China and Japan, which u. a. the second Sino-Japanese War and its aftermath has burdened the binational relations of the countries to this day. The John Rabe Communication Center , founded by Thomas Rabe in Heidelberg with the help of his family, is intended to spread his grandfather John Rabe's idea of ​​peace. Like the John Rabe House in Nanjing, the center is a peace institute that aims to contribute to international understanding.

As part of the international understanding between China and Japan, Thomas Rabe advocates a city partnership between Nanjing / China and Hiroshima / Japan as a peace idea .
