Timofei Fedorovich Gorbachev ( Russian Тимофей Фёдорович Горбачёв ; born June 23 . Jul / 6. July  1900 greg. In the village Troizkoje, Rajon Shatsk ; † 20th December 1973 in Novosibirsk ) was a Russian mining engineer and university professor .

Life

Soon after Gorbachev's birth, the family moved to Tschita , where he then attended secondary school. After the October Revolution he worked in the port of Ajan on the Sea of ​​Okhotsk with the survey work for the connection to Nelkan. In the Red Army he fought in the Russian Civil War on the fronts in Transbaikalia , in Irkutsk Raion and in operations to destroy General Anatoly Nikolaevich Pepelyayev's White Guard expedition in Yakutia . In 1923 Gorbachev was demobilized .

Gorbachev studied at the Mining - Faculty of the Tomsk Technological Institute (TTI) in 1928. From 1929, with graduation, he worked in the coal industry . He led mining operations and was chief engineer on projects. 1931-1932 he was assistant to the chair of his teacher Dmitri Alexandrowitsch Strelnikow at the TTI. In 1936 he became director of the Kuznetsk Coal Research Institute in 1937 and head of the technical department of the Combine Kusbassugol .

In the German-Soviet war , Gorbachev worked from 1942 as chief engineer in coal trusts . In 1942 he became a member of the CPSU . In 1946 he became chief engineer of Kuzbassugol. He developed and introduced new coal mining techniques . He modernized mines and built new ones. Together with others, he developed the mechanized mining industry . In 1944 he defended his candidate dissertation .

In 1950 Gorbachev became the first rector of the Kemerovo Mining Institute and headed a chair there . In 1951 he was appointed professor . In 1954 he became chairman of the West Siberian branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, from 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)) in Novosibirsk. In 1958 he was elected Corresponding Member of the AN-SSSR and Vice-Chairman of the new Siberian Department (SO) of the AN-SSSR. In the same year he founded and headed the Laboratory of rock pressure of the Institute of Mining Affairs, ie mountain Sciences , (IGD) of the SO the AN SSSR in Novosibirsk. In 1960 he became chairman of the Scientific Council on Mountain Mechanics and Pressure in the SO of the AN-SSSR. He presented reports at international conferences in England , France , Belgium and the GDR . He was seconded to longer stays in Poland and Romania as part of development aid campaigns.

Two of Gorbachev's three sons became mining scientists.
